Has anyone heard of this bow? I have a friend who says he has one that he’s looking to part with and would like any info anyone may have on it.

        Thanks

My Dad bought a new one in the early 1970’s. His was a #50 and shot well. I believe his bow was made in Evansville, Indiana. When Dad stopped shooting it I started and shot this bow until 1985. Myles Keller was the spokesman for Indian Archery around this time. After I heard him speak in Evansville I went and bought a XI compound but went back to a recurve. Sorry for the long reply, but when I seen the name it brought back a lot of memories. M. New

Thanks for the flash back Mike. It’s nice to hear memories, for without them we fail to live and only exist.

So I finally got off my keister and made the short drive to pick this bow up Monday. I am surprised at the condition and shootability of it given its age. It still has the original Indian Head leather riser plate on it. I re-served the center serving and have only shot it in the near dark, but will have to get it out this evening to check arrow flight. At 52″ I think it would be ideal for slipping around in the woods. I initially thought being such a short bow, it may be a finger picher, but so far no worries. I’m kind of excited to have it. Any recommendations on a new string? I’m thinking 48″… flemish, dacron, B50, etc?

Dacron would be the way to go, it has a bit of stretch to it that the bow will not have a problem with, FastFlight would likely be a big no-no, due to the lack of stretch. Don’t want to do damage to a new-old bow.

Looks like I’m going to have to convince my beloved wife that I need new arrows.. The 2016’s seem to be way to soft for this bow- even my GT 55-75 Carbons don’t play well. I tried reducing point weight from 145 to 125, then to 100 grains and even though the high and right point of impact was reduced, it still needs a set of it’s own arrows to be spot on.

I picked up a couple of Beeman Classic Carbon shafts cut to 29″ from the archery shop over the weekend. These are nice as they come with the 75 grain HIT inserts in them. I bought 500 spined after shooting some of one of the employees’ personal arrows.

I do have a question though. It seems as though the 500 spine should be better suited for my 45# PSE with a 145 grain point, but these shoot well out of the 55# bow with a 125 grain point. In order to shoot 145 grain points on the 55#, would a 400 spine be better? I tried the 145 grain on the new shafts and point of impact was negatively impacted, but they shot well from the 45# bow. Is there anywhere online that I can buy 1/2 dozen of these shafts? If I have the archery shop here order them, I have to commit to the whole dozen as it would be special order, and I wouldn’t want to bust for a whole dozen in case they turn out to be no good or too stiff for me.

Sorry to drag on, but this is the ‘dragon’ for me right now.

P.S. This bow could also use a little ‘polishing’. Any recommendations on what to use? I believe the belly and back are overlaid with glass..?? I don’t think carbon fiber was available for bow building in the 1970’s, but am open to being corrected.
