I have bounced around from tabs to gloves to more gloves and more gloves. I always circle back to Damascus gloves and seem to have the best overall luck with them. But in my glove journeys I have found things here and there I like, just not the whole package…

So here’s what I’ve been using for 6 months or so and liking a lot: The glove itself is a Damascus glove. The pads are cordovan leather. To make it, I glued the pads where I wanted them. Then I slit the fingers up the back so that I could spread them out and sew the pads on. Then I sewed the back of the fingers up with sinew and a cross stitch like you’d do a bow grip.

After I took these pictures, I redid the index finger pad. As you can see in the picture, it was a bit crooked. After 6 months, the gloves look the same. No wear, wrinkles, etc.

The cordovan provides a great string surface, the Damascus provides a thin tight glove for good feel/control.

        Thought I’d share 😀

Looks good, Steve. I like the Damascus/cordovan combo. When I shot with a glove, I found that there was nothing better than cordovan tips for the smoothest release possible, combined with the fact that good quality cordovan just seems to last forever. Other leather-tipped gloves I’ve used don’t even come close.

I’ve been shooting pretty much exclusively with a tab for some time now, but I still stick with cordovan. It’s truly great stuff.

            Wow, Steve!

You be like Demolition Man when he came out of the Cryo prison…talented in sewing!

I been shooting a couple of Ak Bowhunting Super Gloves with deerskin and cordovan tips.

I like the thicker, older ones I have. and it does just keep gettin slicker over time!

Had my Sister-in-Law sew the pads on. I stitched up the back of the fingers, but that was no big deal. Demolition Man was a good flick eh?

I have one of the AK Super Gloves, but I didn’t like how thick/big the tips are. I like a thinner glove that lets me feel the string and keep my fingers closer together I guess… Sort of like latex vs sheep gut I guess 😯

Any movie with Sandra Bullock in it I like…she’s a hoot!

Just goes to show, “different strokes for different folks”.

I LIKE the heavy tips. I developed “trigger finger” from inflamed tendons so I don’t want to feel the string…

The extra protection seems to help that situation. I find I get a cleaner release if I’m not anticipating it and when I feel the string, I anticipate… so for ME… not a good thing!

                You’ve done a fine job!

I’ve toyed with the tab idea many times, but there the thicker material would create problems…or all I’ve seen (tabs) were thinner, and THAT gave me a problem.

Once on, I tend to leave mine on (glove) and climbing ladders and such is a bit much, but the cordovan surely does “take a licking and keep on slickin” (sorry) 😕

I’ve always used a split cowhide tab (home made), but I got some pig skin at a yard sale for $.50. Going to try to make a finger guard with it. Pig skin is VERY thin and VERY tough. Thus it will feel like no glove, not tear up my fingers, and last longer than the split cow hide. Or, at least, that is the theory. Now, how many will I have to make to get it right?

If anyone can-can, you can….can, Grumpy.

We know you’ll show us how it comes out! Good luck!

😆 yes, exactly like that! I’ve always shot best with a calf/seal tab…I like the ease of a glove, but you know what they say, if it aint broke, don’t fix it 🙄
