Very cool idea Troy!
If the give away is allowed, how would one go about putting thier name in?
Also what poundage is she built too?
-
Wow, Troy. That’s very generous of you. I don’t have any problem with it but I’d like to see the conditions. Would you please PM me before you post them.
-
I’m calling a time out for a few minutes until I hear back from Robin. If she agrees we will carry on and I’ll give some more info.
Troy
-
It’s been a couple hours since PM’ing Robin and still havn’t heard back.
Now that she knows everything (or should I say when she reads my PM to her) hopefully there want be a problem.
If your interested, make your intent on here. Please don’t load up my PM box or e-mail with names and such. Just post it here.
As for the spec and being eligible I’ll be posting that alittle later.
Can’t give out too much info. Thats part of this game….:D

One thing I did forget.
If your in the lower 48 I will pay the shipping. If you live outside the lower 48 or in some forien country like Canada, Mexico, England, France, ect. or Texas (just kidding about TX:D) and are willing to pay the shipping I’ll be happy to send it anywhere.
Don’t want anyone to feel leftout.

Id like to be considered. Never shot a recurve before!
-
Wow, that sounds like the deal of the century.. Very nice work on the bow.. I am new to the whole archery life. I do not even have a bow yet. I shot plenty of fish with an old recurve as a child and really want to get back into it but can not even think of going with a compound but a well built traditional like you build would work out great! When you get the details worked out, I’d love to put my name in the hat.:)

Troy
Sorry, I was out shopping for our grandson’s first birthday present. 😀
Troy, the giveaway sounds great. Anyone who is interested should just post here. I’ll leave the rest up to Troy. Have fun!
flash78 and mkr, welcome to the family. The folks here are friendly and helpful. Read through some of the active posts and if you have questions, we are happy to help. 😀
-
Troy,
Count me in for the bow! I’ll even tune up some UEFOC arrows for it! I’ll also give my grandpa’s old bear take down recurve to my brother so I can get him shooting traditional equipment again! He won’t have the excuse of not having a recurve to hunt with anymore:)
Jans

Troy that is outstanding offer and a beutiful bow. I hope who ever gets it, will be someone who is just afraid to take that first step into traditional archery. It’s always great to see one more person corrupted, I mean moving into the sport:P
-
Please put my name in Troy. Shipping conditions understood.
-
Robin,
Figured shopping had something to do with it.:D:D:D
Found out several years ago that when a woman goes missing it’s best to just figure she is shopping.:D:D:D:D:D
Thanks for go ahead…
Troy

Ralph,
Can’t say anything bad about TX.:D:D
I keep saying one day I’m going to move down there.
Never thought I’d end up in OH., so TX is really starting to sound pretty good. I can handle the heat better than the cold.

Dr. Ed Ashby wrote: You are a good man, Troy. No, thank you, I have more than enough bows but I’m sure you’re going to make someone a very happy hunter. 😀
Ed
Shewt!! Give ME Dr. Ashby’s ticket, I’ll send you two quarts of my homemade spicy tomato juice! (Cooking in the canner right now!) 🙂 🙂
Schwien– Don’t even bother trying to bribe Troy with that blueberry ketchup stuff. I’ve got wild dewberry jam in reserve… 😉 🙂
-Ben
-
Prowler – You got me man! Dewberry jam does top blueberry ketchup. But I’ll meet your jam and raise you a Woodchuck! 😯
-
Thank Troy. There’s good and bad everywhere and it’s not the state but the state of mind of a person that makes things as they seem to be for the most part.
I started with recurves, went to longbows, for 30 yrs., and the other day I got my hands on a Palo Duro recurve, on loan darn it, and wow. Forgot how much I really used to enjoy recurves. Now I’m “torn between two lovers” :D:D
-
Prairie Prowler wrote: Ha! I knew the only thing you’d do with that bow was shoot woodchucks! At least I’d shoot…um…bullfrogs!
Troy, just wait til you try my grandmother’s recipe for…um…bullfrog jam…
Yah, so take THAT, Schwein!
That bow’s mine! 🙂
LOL !
-
Well, I’m a lefty so I guess I’m out of the running, unless! Troy makes a lefty riser just in case! 😀
But really, Troy, this is a great gesture. As much as I’d like to win one of your bows I probably don’t need another one. So don’t include me. I’m pulling for one of the new guys to get a really great bow.

Looks like it’s time to put out the eligibility requirements.
First off let me say I couldn’t resist having a little fun while getting this drawing off the ground.:D
Yes, to some it may seem a little low to make “everyone” think they had a shot at a free bow, but hey it was all done in fun.
This bow will be given away, but the shooters that are eligable will those that we need to keep our sport growing. Otherwise our great sport will die of old age.
This is why,,,,
As you can see from the pics, this isn’t the normal bow I build.
It’s a 2/3’s scale of my normal 62″ recurve.
So with that said, here is the eligibility requirements for the drawing.
1.) must have a 21″ or less draw (21″ is the max draw range of this bow).
2.) must be able to handle a max weight of 21#@21″ (when your body is big enough to pull the 21″ draw)
3.) Must understand that this bow was made as a pass along. In other words, it is never to be sold. It must be either handed down to a younger member of the family or passed on to another young shooter that will put it to good use with the same understandings.
4.) Must understand that this is not a toy. In some states this bow is a legal hunting weapon and is very capiable of harvesting wildlife.
5.) Must post a picture of the the winner with the bow in hand so everyone can congratulate them for the win.
Hopefully everyone of you that have shown interest in the bow will understand and not hold hard feeling against me for doing it this way. I just couldn’t resist.
Again, parents/grandparents/uncles/aunts, please understand, “this is not a toy”. It is a leathal weapon and if cared for as you would any good bow it should last for years and make several young shooters happy.
Now lets rerun this and send me the names of those young shooters so I can find this bow a new home.
Troy
-
Hahaha! Man, this deal just got even sweeter. Troy, you tricky little bugger! Shoulda’ known something was up when the bow only stretched 3 tiles in the first pictures. My two older kids have their own recurves but my littlest guy is ready to be weaned from the fiberglass longbow. Please put Elliot Miller in the hat.
Thanks, Troy!
-Ben
-
So much cooler! Unreal Troy! My niece would love something like that! Garland Scarlett is her name.
Fantastic give away Troy.
-
Good on yah Troy! Unfortunately I don’t know anyone of the proper dimensions for the bow, but I am sure it will go to good home.
Does this mean I get to keep my Woodchuck? 😉
-
Now this is what I was hoping for. Lots of names:D:D:D.
Keep them coming.
One thing I would like to add.
I will be having names summited from other sources. I’m spreading the word as much as possible so that I can get as many names as possible.
I enjoy doing things to help build our sport. If we fail to get the youth of today involved we may become a dieing breed.
Troy
-
Hats off to you once again Troy. I’ve really enjoyed following your previous builds and now to see one of your crafted beauties being passed on to some lucky young archer for free warms the cockles of my heart 😀 You truly are an ambassador for our great sport and tradition. God bless you.
-
Hope someone really enjoys the bow. My grandchildren, 5 boys, are all bigger than me now and I’m not quite ready for being great grandpa yet, I hope. I know some boys that dang sure ain’t ready to be daddy’s yet, as if any of us actually was. If it happens, I know who make little bows but they’ll have to wait on your generosity again :D:D.
It’s a good deal you’re doing.
-
Thanks for such a great offer, my 6 year old daughter would love a bow like that. Please put my name into the hat, Ryan Leonard
-
Folks, thanks to another generous heart Jody S has donated $50.00 to go along with the bow for arrows, quiver or what ever is needed to make this venture more exciting.
The big guy upstairs is smiling down on you Jody and double thanks a million from me.:D
Troy
-
Troy,
This is a great idea and thanks for building the little bow. My son William Herr is 3 and his 1 year old brother Aaron would love to be in the drawing as well. Thanks again and great idea!
Brennan

It just keeps getting better. A friend from another place has added another $25.00 to arrow and quiver fund.
Look out folks, some lucky young sprout is going to be looking sharp on their first outing.:D:D
Troy
-
Troy,
I’m a stay-at-home dad…
I ain’t rich, but I do have some supplies stored up, and I feel the value of your offer..
I’ll send a dozen arrows to the lucky little archer who wins your bow!
The goodness in a person is easily drawn out by another good person. Thanks Troy!
-Ben
-
Ben,
This just shows that when it comes to kids we will open up and make it right.
The addition of the arrows will make everything even better.
Bow, arrows and $75.00 for the other needed items will make one young shooter ready for their next outting, wether it be the backyard or archery range.
Thanks Brother,
Troy

I decided today to have the drawing Saturday, Sept. 1st
That still gives 10 days for everyone to get those names in.
Don’t let a small friend miss a chance at this by not telling everyone.

I would love a bow for my grandson Quinn Walters so grandpa could expose him to the thrills of archery.

Troy,
Let’s throw my nieces and nephews in the hat, too. Hannah B, Suzanna B, Elleanna B, Nic B, Eli B, Jay B, Dante L, and Leland L.
Whew! My folks have a lot of grandkids when you add ’em all up! Okay, I’m done. No more names from me. 🙂

Looks like I need to start counting again. I was hoping for a good turnout for this and it looks like it’s getting there.

Outstanding Idea !
Well done – perfect parameters

I would like to enter my granddaughter Madeleine Mervinska in the contest. She is seven years old and likes shooting a Bear bow that we got her a while ago. She also has two smaller cousins that would enjoy using the bow after she has grown out of it.
What a great idea Troy !!
Bruce

Troy,
I would like to throw in Bralyn Maynard. He’s an 8 yr old boy, good friend of ours, that loves anything outdoors. Currently, his dad has him a youth compound bow that he enjoys shooting. I would like to give him a chance to come over to the fun side of Trad. He has a new little brother, Jacob, a 2 yr old just adopted from S. Korea, to pass the bow onto.
Thanks,
Wendell Allen (aka woodchuck)

Hello Troy,
Put my name in for your fantastic give-away. This Texas Boy would love showing-off a beutiful bow like that. I’d even let my daughter use it! 🙂
-
Please put my sons name, Ethan, into the hat. He is currently shooting a glass bow that I shot as a kid, passed to me by my father. I would love to take him out for grouse this fall.'”

I’ll gladly put your daughters name in if you can tell me her name.
As for your name,,,,,, me no think so. Your too big!!:D

Well, here it is. The finished product.
Micarta tip overlays so any type string material can be used when a new one is needed.
I even stippled the grip.
Some youngster is going to be a happy camper come Saturday.
If anyone has names for the drawing “please” be sure and have them in by Friday night. Not sure what time Saturday I’ll be drawing for the winner. Got a few things to do Saturday morning first.
-
Forgot to say I test shot the bow after finishing it. I used one of my wifes 5/16″ 25-30# spine POC arrows and a GT 600 Entrada.
The bow shot great with the POC, but really smoked it with the GT.
Troy

Nice looking bow! Sadly one of my boys is way to small, and the other is past it a little ways! Dang!
-
I have three names to submit to your most generous raffle,Troy: Elizabeth Swiger,Tom Wilson, and Cameron Wadas; all are aspiring, young traditional archers.
Thanks for giving so many, so much!:wink:I think you’ve outdone yourself, sir…

msarcher,
I think it would be better explained if you went to page two and read the “who’s eligible” part.:D:D:D
Troy

Even better Troy, put my son in the hat…Maddox Rickman, he is 5 and loves shooting his bow which is a youth wheelie. I wanted to find him a real youth recurve like mine which he has asked for over and over. This is so cool man, Thanks again. What a gift!
-
Tomarrow’s the big day. If you know someone that hasn’t gotten there name in, be sure to do it today. Not sure exactly what time I’ll be drawing tomarrow and don’t want any youngster left out.
Troy
-
One more day! I’d like to add Maisy Lewis and Jane Lewis.
Looking forward to see who gets drawn.
Thanks again troy
-
Troy, please put my son Stephen Allcox in the drawing. His current draw length is 21″ but with this set up he would be able to hunt rabbits with me this fall. I’m sure he will out grow it by next year so there would be another give away next year. Thanks Rick
-
Well, looks like the time is here.
First off I’d like to thanks all the Dads, Mothers, Brothers, Granddads and Friends that sent in names. After all were entered the total count was 79 names.
I went through and wrote all the names on slips of paper, placed them in a box and made the draw.
Before telling that name I’d like to show what I have in hand that will be coming with the bow.
I’d also like to thank Joseph Smotherman (JodyS) for donating the quiver and bow stringer, Mel Riley (Irish) from another site for donating the glove and armguard, and Ben Miller (Prairie Prowler) for donating the dozen arrows (which will be sent later).
ON WITH THE SHOW!!!!
The winner is!!!!!
William Herr of PA. William is the son of Brennan Herr (brennanherr).
CONGRATS Willaim!!!
We all look forward to seeing that picture of you with bow and accessories in hand.
Troy
-
Congratulations William and Brennan! Thanks again, Troy and all who added to the package. I’m sure your generosity will be rewarded over and over as we teach these qualities to the next generation. 😀
-
I would like to thank Troy for his time and effort for putting this idea together. Will and his younger brother Aaron will get a lot of use out of this fine bow. I would also like to thank everyone else that contributed items as well. I will post pics of Will with the bow when it arrives….thanks again Troy your kindness is a credit to you and our sport!
Brennan
-
Congratulations Will!
-
Ben,
Those arrows look great!!! Thanks for building them and I know Will is going to be very excited!
Thanks
Brennan
-
Great job Ben.
Just goes to show that everyone involved did a top notch job in making this one of the best give-aways ever.:D
Williams feet most likely want touch ground for quite awhile.
Troy
-
Ben,
The riser was Osage and Goncalavez (aka Tigerwood) the accent stripes were maple and goncalavez. The limbs core and wedge were Osage inside black glass.
Really turned out better than I thought it would at first.
