Hi friends, long time no talk:) Life has had me busy, rehabbed an injured left shoulder and can shoot my bow again, and getting ready for a summer trip.

I’m looking for good places in Idaho to take my adventurous wife, 3.5 yoa twin girls, two big dogs, and a Toyota 4 runner for 10 days around the third week in July. Our idea of a vacation is beautiful mountains and rivers with no people:) I don’t have horses or the gear to pack a nice camp into the back country any longer, and my little girls can only hike so far yet.

My wife and I love to fly fish and backpack, but our girls aren’t big and strong enough for the kind of trips we used to make. Now I’m limited to shorter day hikes from base camps. The girls are just starting to fish. A little hiking, campfires, fly fishing, swimming in rivers or lakes, and secluded car camping with beautiful mountains around and day trips is what I am looking for. This is a lot more difficult to find than parking at a trail head and loosing the crowds by packing in miles or loading the horses up and heading for beautiful back country.

My problem is, I know next to NOTHING about the great state of Idaho! (have always gotten lost in Montana on my way there:) I’m looking for any ideas on areas to research or go, and know this is the right group of people to talk to! Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to “post” your sweet spot:) I understand. I have been looking at the Stanley/ Sawtooth area which looks amazing.

Have Troy Breeding finishing two new sets of limbs for my bow from him and may be able to bring her with for some camp stumping!

        I really appreciate any feedback!

        Jans

I’ve never been to it but a gentleman in the local fly club loves Kelly Creek in Idaho. It meets almost all your criteria except the lack of people. But like most places a little work gets you away from masses.

It’s a little bit of a haul from Kelly Creek but the Emerald Creek Garnet area is fun.

Be careful please. I work in emergency services and the heat is no joke this year.

          Have a great trip!

big horn crags – you can hit yellow jacket lake and then camp at the crags campground -from there you can hike and hit a couple different lakes and still car camp and catch fish if you get bored with that come into Salmon town and rent a raft or a couple of ik’s and float the Salmon river and swim all day. good luck
