A second hand 64″ tred barta (martin) for 300 buckaroos. I feel like it’s a steal, brand new here they’re about $800. Hope it arrives in one piece.

I thought about asking here if anyone had any comments regarding these bows, but the price seemed so good I just got all excited and bought it 😳 So ahh, let me have it if you’ve owned one and thought it was a dog! Honestly, a broomstick with a bit of tire wire joining the ends is probably a better bow than I am an archer so I’m probably going to be happy anyway 😉

you will like todays modern longbows. Your going to fall in love with how quiet they are. 300 is a good deal. hope it makes it in one piece for ya

You’ll get hooked!!!! 😀 One piece it is too hopefully.

I’ll get on a recurve kick now and then and I actually shoot a bit better with one but I always end up back with my longbows. Plus and minuses for each but preference scores the most.

            Enjoy!!!!!!

              Cheers guys 🙂

Ralph it’s a one piece. I’m expecting it to arrive next week, I’ll be sure to post some pics. Unless it breaks in transit, in which case I will cry myself to sleep 😉

Would not be a happy thing to be broken. The “luck” be with you! And I’m telling you, you’ll get hooked. Remember though, the way you grasp the bow will be different than that of a recurve if you’ve not shot one before.

Cheers for the good luck Ralph. I’ve never shot one, but I by the looks of it this bow has one of those heavier, almost recurve like risers. I’m not sure exactly what that will mean for my wrist position, I’ll have to figure that out when it gets here. The only club in this town that is even close to traditional is out of action for the time being so I can’t even go pester anyone. But I’m looking forward to being hooked by the long bow 🙂

Jim, I’m no instructer or expert or anything, just been shooting long, long, long time:lol:. I’m even older than David Peterson and we’ve seen some old dirt for sure. Most people shoot recurves with a high wrist and longbows with a low wrist. I was trying to shoot my longbow with a high wrist when the meaty part of my left hand (bow hand) was buggered up this past fall and winter. I was somewhat successful by curling and tucking my little finger against the bow. I had problems keeping the bow from torquing on me doing this however. I was only shooting like this because I couldn’t stand not shooting for very long. Anyway, by design of the bows this is what is. I might get some different thoughts and opinions but …… I’ll pm you to show you what my problem was. It’s ugly!

Hah, I read and replied to your pm before I read this, so my reply won’t make much sense 😳

Yep, low wrist will definitely be different for me. I can’t wait to give it a good hard try though 🙂

R2, I do this from time to time also. I tuck my last 2 fingers into my palm while gripping the bow but only to train my grip when i find myself getting lazy.

Nice bow Jim!!! I hope you enjoy and it shoots well. After 4 years of recurve shooting it took me a little while to get used to a longbow. But now it is like second nature. You fellows that go back and forth between the two have my respect.

Arch 2 about shooting the longbow and the differences between the longbow shooting and that of the recurve.

                                          Thanks guys!

Ralph, this bow has travelled quite a way. Not only did it make it here originally from the US, the guy I bought it from is in Adelaide, and the shipping company accidentally sent it to Darwin instead of Townsville so it’s journey from him to me ended up being over 4000 miles on some pretty rugged highway in the back of a truck:

The red line shows the first leg, then the blue shows the final journey to it’s new home 🙂

Jim, you sure you didn’t use UPS? 😆 Start tracking something shipped and it’s amazing how many A to B’s there are in a “direct route” from A to me ::lol: .Like my 18 yr. old grandson fixing to graduate would say, “It’s even more better you gots it”. Ha! Enjoy.

My knee and ankle had MRI’s done at the start of the week, I’ll get a surgeon’s review in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed no surgery required 😕

That’s a clean-looking little bow, Jim. I’m not familiar with the model, but it appears certainly to be a straight-limbed bow, rather than the more common deflex/reflex longbows so popular today. That means it will be a bit more picky about tuning and release, definitely not a beginner’s bow. But you’re no beginner and with patience you should make a great team.

As for Ralph, unless your profile age is several years out of date, you are not older than me but a comparatively young whipper-snapper attempting to appear more mature than you really are. And I’m getting even older really soon (funny how it happens all at once, like a clock whose minutes tick just once a minute rather than creeping evenly along), so you’ll never catch up. If you took up heavy drinking and smoking that would help speed the process for you, but even then … 😆

Boy I tell you what, I’ve been practising a lot on my backyard range, but sometimes learning a new bow is really frustrating. I’ve been taking videos to critique myself. For those interested here’s a link to a 2 minute video I put together of my practice sessions:

                                                          http://youtu.be/-oRTk8MD7jE

Dave, it is actually a d/r bow, but it must be a very gentle d/r as you only see the flexation (I think I made that word up) when it is unstrung. As soon as it’s under tension the limbs straighten out. I’m not sure why it would be designed like that or what effect it will have on the function of the limbs. Presumably less d/r means less mechanical advantage but I’m not sure what the pay off is. Maybe I get to trick people at trad shoots and say it’s a straight limbed bow 😉

But—again you have the loading phase down pat, good job. Thanks for the look at some of your exotic wildlife–I recognized the dingo, was that other critter a wallaby? I’m still 😆

I gravitated toward bamboo longbows due to thier lack of handshock and smooth shooting currently I own six of them. its a sickness i tell you longobws touch the soul like no other weapon ive ever had the privledge of shooting you may be hooked for life! But luckily you have found a great support group who understands this addicition and can provide guidance and support on your journey.
