1/2t — I’m a bit slow on the uptake, but if I understand you correctly, why not just cut off an inch of the rod and weigh it? But in the bigger picture, if you’re using screw-in points why not just buy some brass washer weights made for that purpose? Seems like a lot of work for very little gain and almost no money savings involved. 😕 But perhaps I’m missing something. In any event, welcome to Tradbow.com and I hope someone here can help you. Dave

1/2t…I think I see what you’re wanting to do. However, as Dave said, it doesn’t really make sense when there are easier (and cheaper) ways of obtaining that extra 20 grains. The brass washers he’s talking about weigh, I believe, something like 5 grains per washer, so by adding 4 of them behind your head, you’re back at the 145 grains. In truth, once feathers are on your arrows, you really won’t see a lot of difference between the two weight points, but that’s just me. My accuracy when I’ve dropped to a 125 gr from a 145 gr really wasn’t affected. 20 grains really isn’t a whole lot when you figure in the total weight of the arrow. My arrows weigh around 585 grains, total, so 20 grains is a mere 3.4 percent of the actual weight of the arrow. Not enough to affect arrow flight significantly enough to cause worry. Good luck and welcome. Let us know how you come out.

            Michael.

Or…..you could just buy 145 grain field points…less than $5.00 a dozen and use them 8^).

1/2t, you can get the brass washers through 3 Rivers Archery. I haven’t seen very many archery shops that carry a whole lot of the smaller, more specialized items used in traditional archery. Most of them cater to the compound world, and only carry the bare minimum that they can get away with for traditional archers. Thankfully, we have access to such online providers as 3Rivers and Kustom King. They have a lot of the things that we might otherwise not be able to get or even know about if we were isolated. Good luck.

                  Michael.

P.S. There are no stupid questions, so fire away!!

3 of those brass washers is about the most you would want to use. 4 doesn’t leave much thread left sticking out to screw into the insert.
Don’t get mislead into sloppy thinking. There is no good reason to ignore a 20 grain weight difference. It will mean the difference between being in or out of tune. As your shooting improves you should also get to the point where such a difference also makes an obvious difference in the point of impact.

Go with the washers or heaver tips. I doubt you could cut the rod and maintain a uniform weight among the pieces resulting in your arrows varying in weight.

The 145 gr screw in field tips are only .25 cents each, isn’t this much cheaper way to go? I have many of these that are on some 2117’s at present.
