Arwen went stumping with me a few times a couple years ago. Then declined my offers….
Didn’t like that but knew better than to press the issue. She has not practiced with her bow. The bow and the arrows are available. If/when she wants to use them.
Just last week she asked if she could come stumping with me. She did, didn’t go out as long as I usually do, but we shot at stumps (neither of us hit them) and changed the memory chips in the trail cams. Saw a flock of geese. Nothing at all exciting. But we did talk….
This week she asked Friday night when we were going.
“I was planning to get up at 6:00 and go out to Farmer Jims.”
“OK” Without a moment’s hesitation. Seems she had already made up her mind to go whenever.
It was pretty much the same route we went last week, but this week we spotted the geese in the high hay field from down below, before they saw/heard us. We made a small stalk to get close as we could, then flushed them from just a few feet. Over 20 Canadian geese took of, formed their “V” and headed south. Neat!!
After we sat and looked out from the high hay field and talked about reincarnation, the over soul, and everything else that is important in the world. Like will she get punished if she learns Japanese and says swear words. No, I didn’t give her any straight answers.

Awesome! There is something about being outside that sparks some great conversations with kids that are turning into real people. She’ll be grown before you know it, and she’ll remember the great times afield with you. Good job, Grumpy!

Yep, raising kids might just be the best part of life. Look out Grumpy, it looks like she’s big enough to take you now 😀

Good stuff there Grumpy! I just spent a week hanging out with my son down in Biloxi Miss and also in NOLA for a couple of days. Missing him already.
