So far, deer have been scarce. We have LOTS of acorns this year, so the deer don’t have to be anywhere in particular to eat or bed down. We also had quite a hard winter last year so deer numbers in general might be down. How’s the hunting elsewhere? Anyone harvest one yet??

I need a helmet to walk out in my driveway because of the acorns falling. Biggest year ever for them in the last thirteen years here in southeastern NH, by the looks of things.

I’ve been out twice. Plenty of moose and bear sign, but scant evidence of whitetails on those forays. That was mostly my fault, I was too obstinate in my choice of location to go where the acorns are heaviest. 🙄 Next time will be different.

I’ve been hunting six times and have seen deer four times. Been in range three times but with no shot due to brush twice and being busted once. All in all, not too bad considering early season in arKansas amounts to an untidy predator/prey triangle of hunter, deer, and mosquito. I’ve hunted the same areas long enough that the deer all know I am mostly a spot and stalk hunter, and they are in cahoots with the bugs, knowing that once I get close I must be quite still and avoid slapping the little airborne Tasmanian Devils off my balded pate. I would welcome a killing frost, but we are probably a month or more away from that yet. Till then, I’ll keep creeping around the woods and hope something tasty trots into range between swats.

I have been out every weekend at least one day since the opener. So far I have battled 80 degree temperatures 25 mile per hour winds, and a rain snow mixture…..man I love hunting the fall in Minnesota 🙂

I have seen deer everytime that I have gone out. Opening day I busted 3 deer that were right in my hunting area which was a bummer. The next morning I had a small 5 pointer walk right in my shooting lane before we caught wind of me. I watched 2 doe casually walk right by at about 50 yards. One the windy day I didn’t even bother to sit in my blind and figured I would roam around looking for any movement activity which I saw 3 deer holding tight to a field edge.

All and all I have seen the deer but have not drawn my bow back yet. Only have a few more weeks until the guns start firing!

It’s been terribly slow for me, Tailfeather, Broadhead, and BuckyT down here in GA. I’ve had a couple good sits but mostly seeing nothing. It’s sure odd.

I also have been struggling with rain and high winds. It’s like mother nature knows what we are up to….

Super full moon last night and 92° today didn’t do much good for this child.

The muley does were already headed to bed when the sun came up and I didn’t see the bucks again that I saw Monday morning.

Lots of time left and a cool down coming in the next couple of days. Wind coming again though. Nothing like trying to find a wind block in the sagebrush.

                    Maybe!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel your pain. Supposed to be 90 here the next two days, but what the hell….I’m itching to hunt with my new bow. Warm or not, it beats not going!

Yeppers!Goin’ in the morning myself. Can always stump shoot to pass the time, look for arrowheads and just roam the country with longbow in hand. The 10,000 acres I have access to has lots to see. I’ve been hunting it for nearly 20 years and I still find new and interesting things. I would be bored if all I did was look for deer 😀

I’m really into spotting, stalking and trying to take a Rio Grande turkey with my longbow. :P:P

Me too! I raked up a 5 gallon bucket full last week end and they are still falling. I’ll put them back out this winter when the critters need them.

Things finally settling down. Hope to get in the woods this weekend. The Thunderchild and the Shrew are ready, just pick one and go. Ground hunting seats, ready. I think NCBA is having the annual Butner Game Land bow hunt this week end, but not sure. Lots of options for public land even without having scouted first. May be able to catch up on scouting on Sunday.

I was out opening day. No game around, and weather quite warm. Plenty of sign, so I am optimistic. I have been working the night shift this week, so hard to find daylight hours to hunt, but plan on being out later this afternoon to close down the day.

Any day hunting is a good day!

This weekend was the first time I went out with my bow…ever.

I’m new to archery and even newer to bowhunting.

Mazonia/Braidwood State Fish and Wildlife Area is just minutes from my house and as far as I can tell, is going to be a great place to hunt (or at least learn how to hunt).

I went out the last couple days. The first day all I saw was tracks and a scraped tree. After relying too much on Google Maps I found myself in some very unfriendly terrain. I ended up turning back after lots of frustration but had to walk in front of two ground blinds again to get back. I really didn’t want to have to do that.

The second day I really got out there and played the wind and terrain. I was more patient and scouted some good locations on my walk back.

I saw one deer about 100 meters from my location but there was no hope of tracking due to rocky terrain and the time it would take to get on his/her trail. I spent the majority of my time hunched in a little area just off a trail right next to a clay opening with lots of traffic. I had good concealment and the wind was on my face but nothing came walking by.

The area is dense and is going to offer a challenge to me, the un-experienced bowhunter.

Even though I haven’t gotten anything (yet) I can’t stop thinking about getting back out there again. So, I must be doing something right.

                                  Good luck to all.
