It all started with a garden. We had one last year but the rabbit population was low around here probably because of the drought. This year however, we put in our Spring garden and the bunny population boomed shortly thereafter. I told my wife that I should start thinning them out but Nooooo! They were so cute! She loved sitting outside in the evenings and watching them chase each other around. I tried to tell her that all that chasing and playing was preparatory to making a lot more bunnies. She didn’t care. Then what little we had in the way of Spring rains ended and the customary drought returned. Everything went brown and dead, except for the garden that I water every evening. The green beans were producing nicely and we had tomatoes coming along as well as cucumbers and acorn squash on the way. Then the cottontails discovered bunny Eden and turned my wife into Katniss Everdeen. (From the movie “Hunger Games”.) The transformation was amazing. My wife has always loved to target shoot with her bow. Now she is asking for advice on the best bunny busting arrows. Where she normally can’t sit still and be quiet for more than 30 seconds she is now able to sit motionless waiting for the enemy to appear. She pays attention when I show her how to avoid stepping on dead leaves and small sticks when stalking and to move slowly. She was impressed when I walked up to within ten feet of a cottontail and arrowed it. Like I said, amazing. I’ve loved my wife almost since the first day we met but I think I like this version even better.

Ha – that’s a great story, John. Any bunnies in the pot yet?
My own Katniss (her name actually is Kat) at the BHA Rendezvous this past spring:
And my buddy Ken Theis coaching her (I know better than to try and do that myself…8)):

Sorry folks time to sign off– major front about 30min out stretches from the great lakes all the way to the TN border–can’t wait for it to hit our mountain and ridges to our west. Time to shut down electronics.
