So my old man gave me his old browning fury I but its pretty dirty and has tape residue on it from when he was younger and taped a fishing reel to it. Any suggestions on how I can clean it?

Goo Gone and an old washcloth (terry type with texture) never harmed any bow finish I tried it on… but there haven’t been a ton of them… use it on a lot of stuff without bad juju, fwiw

I was reading on Goo Gone to clean them but that is some nasty stuff….I am concerned that it will take off more than just the old residue…I am worried that the furnish will be removed as well

              Really? Nasty?

Huh! I thought it was just concentrated orange oil…?

I use it on carbon arrows after taking off cap wraps or feathers…

Use it on anything with a sticky residue… used it to clean up various sight windows when I removed the side plate material that was glued on…

But hey… go with your gut… Once I use the goo gone, I wipe down with alcohol to remove the goo gone residue… then buff with a clean dry cloth.

Be safe. Test a small area and wait a few days…

Aaaa I see the miss connection….I can’t say I have used the orange stuff that much and I am familiar with the goo gone that will remove your intire bumper if you are not careful with it. I will give the orange stuff a shot and see what happenes

Goes to show you how old and “out of it” I am…I thought there was only ONE Goo Gone… it SMELLS like orange and orange oil will clean glue off anything…

So what do I know… might be the bad stuff… tread lightly… don’t go on an old fools say-so!

I got some of the orange goo gone and after hours of scrubbing and spraying and scrubbing and spraying I got about 5 inches of the handle clean 😯

I then desided to take extreme measures and I found that I had a drywall sand paper and that worked magic…minus the fact that is it scuff the limbs very slightly. Nothing a little oil wont fix though. I did a combination of sanding then spraying the goo gone letting it sit for a couple minutes and then wiping as much of it off as possible. I think once I am finished with it tonight its going to look like it originally did!

#0000 steel wool doesn’t scratch bluing, but will take off a light patina of surface rust… should’ve mentioned that…

#000 no bets…been using 4-0 for decades on all sorts of stuff…

Drywall sandpaper? Never heard of that…always used regular 100 Grit..or 150 for finish…

Sounds courageous! Glad it’s working out for you!

Stuff been on their and turned into cement, not glue residue, huh? 😯

Its a very fine sandpaper and does not remove very much but it is doing the trick!

I should have mentioned too that he pained the bow a camo color too for whatever reason…But all of it is coming off which is good. If all else fails I guess I will hang it up as decoration if the bow does not work

Ahhh…there was a camo bow paint years ago that darned near wiped off with thinner but I saw some that didn’t want to come back off!!!

I should’ve known that it today’s world, some enterprising soul would market “drywall sandpaper” specifically for that…

glad you found something that will work… sticky stuff, Goo Gone works wonders…You did well to try the fine, fine sandpaper… sorry I didn’t share about 0000 steel wool earlier…Didn’t realize you had paint to deal with too… Sorry…
