Brother in law and me drove asround some of our hunting areas yesterday and it sure has changed. They logged hundreds of acres. Whole areas totally gone. :shock:It had changed so much that I wasn’t sure where I was at times. The only plus is that they apparently left wood strips between the devistation. So these might be great areas to set up stands. Way too hot to walk around and check right now.

It won’t take ten years. As soon as the briars get high enough to hide them they will be there. It will be a prime area for food and cover in about five years, depending on the variety of plant life that replaces the old.
Don’t look at it as devastation, it’s developing land. 🙂
Some of the best hunting we had years back were areas of cut over land and existing pieces left standing. It quickly became an area you could count on for decent game population.
That was land managed by WESTVACO in West Virginia, near the Maryland border. -
by the ten year mark, its in deterioration again.
next year should be awesome….and I wouldnt count out this year either.

I know I hunted a smaller piece ofland that was select cut.The first two years was awesome. Now the briers and such are so thick and high that it is near impossible to hunt. I think the strips will be good this year, but the clear cut areas are all sand, so might be a few years before much besides briers grows.
