i’m relatively new to traditional bow…and i’m sure that the subject of hog hunting has been discussed many times in this forum (so please bear with me). my ultimate goal is to hunt wild boar with my bow. i have no desire to hunt or kill anything in the northeast (where i live)…is there anyone with some info or hints on where i may hunt this “scourge” of the south? any help would be much appreciated…thanks

There’s tons of public land down here in GA that’s loaded with them. I can’t figure out why you wouldn’t want to hunt anything up there but if you like pigs, we got em. We hate em down here. I’m sure if you pm Tailfeather, he can point you to some awesome public land spots in s ga where you could come down and camp and do it for free.

As Etter1 said there is plenty of public land hunting land in Georgia for hogs. You can choose the mountains of north Georgia, the rolling hills of the Piedmont or the coastal plains and swamps of the southeastern portion of the state. One can find feral hogs on public land in all of these places.

A little further south, there are ranches set up in several Florida locations. Some ranches around Okeechobee offer great hunting. These are not high-fence preserves, rather hundreds (if not thousands) of open acres with some shooting houses, stands and feeders set up. No license fee from what I remember. Pay for what you get. Hope it helps.

Go to the Georgia DNR website and look on pg. 28 of the regs. pdf. It addresses feral hog hunting in GA. 😀

Wow, no closed season or limit on private land. Public land is pretty liberal too. I guess they really are treated like a nuisance animal. I hear it’s the same in TX.

It’s year round, no limit in CA as well, but about 90% of them are on private lands, and you DO pay for them. Avg here is about $400-600 per.
These ranchers are greedy!
What do private ranches charge where you guys are?

In GA all it takes is a little scouting to find them on public land. We have people in the “business” of hunting who offer hunts on private land for a price as well. I have no idea what they charge. I don’t understand why folks would pay to hunt hogs when they are so plentiful. All it takes is some research, a little shoe leather and maybe some tips from fellow hunters.

Broadhead, I know what you mean, but sometimes it’s a bit more difficult. I started very late in hunting. One of my biggest fears was that I would breaks some sort of law without honestly knowing it (trespassing was a big one). Since then, I have found who you can and can’t put much faith in. So far as these forums, I have met nothing but the nicest people. That being said, I just don’t feel right asking people like that to share their spots. If hogs are so bad that people are more than willing, great. I wouldn’t mind the drive down from PA. If you have some advice to give a Yankee, I’m all ears. And if any Pennsylvanians want to plan a trip for some hogs, maybe a bunch on this forum could take a long weekend and go put that advice to some good use.
Take care all,
Alex
