After a few days of classic California-mountain weather: blue-sunny skies, warm days, nights in the 30’s; a cold front pushed in. Rain lasted for a few hours into the night eventually switching to heavy-wet snow (perfect snowball snow, heehee). Here’s a picture of us packed up for the hike out to the truck after the last week of hunting the elusive black-tailed buck. All 3 of us had “almost taken a shot” about everyday. After an hour long stalk I needed another 20-30 yards more for a shot at one of the 3 mature bucks I was stalking. Alas, they walked over a knoll and out of my life. We ate a bunch of small game, chipmunks, Douglas squirrels, and quail, and had a great adventure! Now it is time to start thinking of pigs…

I’m glad you had fun! From my experience, killing small game is much easier on the back. Thanks for the nice snow picture. I didn’t think Sasquatches ran in packs though…

P, great adventure! Love that photo. It reminds me of many backpack trips in north central pa, wet snowy, cold, perfect weather to have the trail to yourself. Thanks for the post. I look forward to the pig story next. Dwc
