Hi Trad-Man,
Are you planning a laminated bow or a self bow?

The forms are harder to make than the Bow! Subjective statement I suppose. Depends on the type of Bow. Straight longbow? Straight 2×6 with a strip of Aluminum glued down on a Planed 2×6. You can order all the lams from variuos manus. Figure your poundage by their formulas on the lam thickness etc.

lucky, I tried to get my high school to let me build one, but they wouldnt. I too was in a advanced power mechanics class.(which is more than just wood working, welding, engines, ect), but I would suggest that you get one of the DVD’s from bingham if you are planning to build a laminated wood bow! Tons of info!
Good luck

Ahh, forget about all that laminated talk. A selfbow is what you want. All you need is a good stave, a draw knife, cabenet scraper, and hatchet. Easy as pie – well, almost!
Traditional Bowyers Bible Vol. 1 is a good reference.

Hey bud,
As a new bowyer myself, I had the frustrations of getting started recently. I’ve learned the process that takes the least “special” equipment is a board bow. This simply means you start with a stock Boar rather than a stave or multi layers of laminations. A board bow can still be an good hunting weapon although will not be expected to shoot quite as fast as a laminate bow. You can find a build along to a “piramid board bow” on tradgang.com there is a high school wood shop teacher that actually uses this as a project. Anyways I’m babling but I learned alot and had a great hunting season with mine.TJW
