so I took the plunge and bought some graphites . Long story short went to a friends and shot his arrows – tuned them to my bow – all the weights so on and so on. They are flying good out of my 54# x 25″ Selway. I go home order the shafts 3555s and get some wraps. I am using Duco cement to glue feathers. Before I leave the garage the feathers fall off. So what kind of glue do these things need ???? I left the arrows long and they sound and fly terrible ??? I beleive they are too weak so I can cut them shorter and see what happens. They seemed to fly great long but when I bought my own they are bad??? Any thoughts my woods fly great 50 55 fur shafts left long full length. Thanks

          Hi,

I lightly scrub the ends of the shafts with a dishwashing scrubber and whip them clean with alcohol. I use fletching tape with a drop of Beyond Bond on the front and back of the feather. I rarely had a feather come off. Good luck, dwc

thanks I will try and get some tape. I washed 6 with alcohol and 6 with arrow wraps. The ones with the wraps – the feathers came off . I haven,t tried the others yet . The flight on these arrows are bad . They are finished off at 600 grns – should fly good ???

I only tried the wraps once and they got scratched in the fletching jig. Otherwise, they just don’t appeal to me, but that’s only a matter of taste, of course.

You should check of the links to tuning on this site. The arrows might be fine, maybe not tuned right. Others on this site can be of much greater help than I can. Reading the EFOC threads really helped me a lot. Best of luck, dwc

                Wahoo —

I do not use wraps so cannot answer questions on same —

Your first post said you tuned a friends arrows too your bow, then ordered your own? { if I understood correctly } are your new ones the same brand/type ? Same Length ? have the same weight/inserts? etc

thanks all and yes to the above. Same arrows all the weights in place and bad. I will ck the other site . The other 6 shafts I have I put weight tubes in that I bought from 3 rivers and I have not shot those yet but they finish out at 550 grn. The only reason I used wraps on 6 was because the shafts are blk and I thought I could see them better and because I thought that duco would stick to it. Oh well

problems solved . The arrows with the weight tubes and 125 pt with no wraps – wiped down with alcohol glued with duco cement fly great and the feathers stayed on. The ones with the weigts I need to pull out and put tubes in and take the wraps off or get tape. Thanks all

I to us gold tips on occasion and wraps as well. Found that Super glue works best for me. Found some with a brush applicator, like nail polish, which is neat and quick. Also crested the wraps and found that very thin paint works good but if the paint is too thick it takes too long to dry and deforms the plastic wraps.

never had anyluck with using Duco with carbons,it works great with wood shafts, I use Fletchtite platinum when I fletch carbons even with no wraps I have hardly ever had feather come off!

I second the fletchtite suggestion. Duco won’t work with wraps.

And the spine of your arrow is maybe a bit low for your poundage. If your friends arrows flew well, the starting point would be to find out what his arrow spine is, and match it.

By adding the weight tubes, you have moved the center of mass of the arrow back toward the middle, and reduced the acceleration out of the bow. Thus the weaker spined arrows fly ok.

But you gave up speed and the advantage of FOC on arrow flight and penetration.

But that’s ok, just more fun stuff for later!

I use Fletchtight platunum , and wraps on all my carbons . Never had any come loose . When not using wraps I use a little steel wool or fine sandpaper and clean with alcohol first .

Use fletching tape easy fast and keeps feathers/vanes on tight
