Finished my Income Tax return, and realized I can afford a bow. I mean one made by someone else. That knows what he is doing.
I am thinking of the Bear Supermag 48″. I want a pull of at least 40# AT MY DRAW LENGTH of 22″. The Supermag comes up to 55# @ 28, but what would that be at 22″? I know the standard formula is to deduct/add 2.5 pounds/inch, which is probably accurate plus or minus a couple inches. But is that accurate for SIX inches? Would some of youse guys (y’all in dixie) check the pull on your bows @ 22″ and get back to me?
I’m also going to go to a bow shop, and ask them, but they may not take me serious either.

I wonder if Bear customer service could give you a decent answer for that?

Or maybe 3 Rivers. They sell the Supermag, and I’ve found their customer service folks pretty helpful. They might be willing to pull one to 22″ and measure for you.

Thanks for the idea Wose. After I read it, I wondered why I didn’t think of that myself. But I didn’t.
Called both Bear, and 3Rivers. Bear never got back to me, but Dave at 3 Rivers found a supermag (55 @ 28″) that tested at 47# @ 22″. That is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. Never expected to find it tho. It is ordered, and Dave promised it will ship tomorrow.
By the way… The rule of thumb (2.5 lbs per inch) for calculating draw weights seems pretty sketchy to me right now.

Grumpy, enjoy the new bow. The folks at 3rivers have always been really helpful to me. Glad your experience was good, too. Show us some photos! dwc

Good! I’m glad to have been of service. I’ve been very pleased with 3Rivers myself.
I’m guessing you are correct, that the 2.5lb/in rule of thumb is pretty accurate if you are only deviating a bit, but not for 6 inches. The math just doesn’t work out right.

It’s only that – a general guideline. Further complicated by the fact that some bows aren’t even their exact, stated weight @ 28″ to begin with. The only way to really know exactly is to put it on a bow scale.
Regardless, congrats on the new bow!

assuming that you are not being RUDE… I am a small person, and have short arms. Actually I shoot with a straight wrist, and anchor near my ear to get just a bit more draw.
Yes, I buy my clothes in the BOYS dept.
Sitting here with my sleeves rolled up because they are too long…

And having followed some small-statured SAR dog handlers through the woods at times, I can imagine it comes in handy here in New England at times!

I know that WOJO. Didn’t really mean rude, meant rude in the sense of making fun. I have 3 brothers, and short jokes are a family tradition. When I went to college the “little kids” grew into my clothes, and I had to get up at the crack of dawn just to have something to wear.
I GOT THE BOW. Its beautiful, so delicate, and strong, awesome curves. Beside the bows I have made the limbs look so thin, delicate, yet are just as strong. Think that the BEAR throws arrows faster, at the same pull weight. Which is something I have suspected all along. The handle (riser) fits my hand and straight wrist style. Shot a couple dozen arrows, the last 6 were in a 4″ group – 6″ to the left of bulls eye, but a good group. And that is without tuning, don’t even have a nock point yet, haven’t played around with brace height, etc. That means all of these arrows I have are the correct spine, etc. Big relief. I did have trouble stringing it, but went to a local shop an bought a stringer to replace the one I had made. Could have made a better one myself, just too lazy, and couldn’t wait.
I DO have string twang!! Guess the quiet string is unique to my bows. Need to go dig up some beaver fur, and make some balls. Sorry the silencers you make from bass bug legs are just a little too ugly. As I’m sitting here thinking about it, mink mittens might have a bit more class than beaver balls.
Really awesome thing about this is that Audrey is just as excited as I am. 😀

Sent you a PM.
