That bear made no aggressive sounds or movements he was just curious, i sure hope the hunter gave him a pass.

I’ve had more than just a few experiences like that (granted in stand I’ve only had head waist high or so, not eye to eye like that 😯 ). I too hope this young one got a pass but, depending on the hunter’s experience level, want of some prime forest pork etc, I would understand if he took it….

Of course my big hope is that he quit shaking long enough to execute a clean shot 😆 probably needs new huntin’ clothes too.:lol:

Wow! That bear was FAST up the tree! Great footage and what an experience 😀 Thanks for sharing Ben.

On the question of shoot or don’t shoot in this case, I see no garbage pile, so not likely bear hunting (fair chase bear hunting requires being on the ground). Probably deer hunting. And it appears there are two yearling cubs (adult bears don’t run in packs) and in most states it’s illegal to kill a sow with cubs. But after having a bear so close in your face that you could smell its breath, killing it would be anticlimactic in any event. I had one sniff around a tree I was in some years ago (I spotted an old plywood platform stand and went up to eat my lunch and look around), but he didn’t come up. Indeed, climbing a tree to escape a black bear is like trying to outrun an arrow. Very cool little video.

The biggest one I ever killed came up the base of my tree. He got his nose to platform level and, thank god, went back down. It was pretty hairy. 😀

That one was. I have the rug to prove it, but surprisingly, some of them look absolutely pitiful in the spring. A really rubbed up hide looks like a dog wearing the worst and sparsest hair plugs you’ve ever seen. Like a coyote with mange.

By the way this bear keeps looking back, I’d say another bear is in the area and spooked this one up the tree. It really makes your hair stand up when you’re in a ground blind and you suddenly hear one sniffing the outside of the blind !!
