Staying on the Ground this year, I have not practiced all season for elevated shooting. And to be honest… the older I get the trees scare me. One month to go… so will be out next weekend, making up some natural ground blinds. 8)

You and me both, Steve ol’ buddy!

I’ve just got to get my already slow pace slowed down moving around in the huntting ground.

Just checked the weather for N. IN. for the first week of Oct. (like that won’t change about 8 times before then 😆 )

SO FAR, they are calling for warm and rain the first day but THIRTIES at night the whole week with highs in the mid to upper fifties.

I hope they are right!!! That works for me!

New area this year (drat) so I will be spending more of my early season out there watching. Might even dumb into something!

            Keep us posted!

Nothing more exciting than hunting a whitetail from the ground! Will definitely get the ticker going.

I love hunting from the ground. The first time you bleet during early rut will get you going. Nothing crazier than having bucks run in on you while you are sitting behind a few sticks that you tied together. Thought my heart would pop out of my chest!

For the last several archery seasons I’ve stayed on the ground. This year I thought I might hand a tree stand or two, but I’m reading G. Fred Asbell’s book STALKING & STILL-HUNTING and he’s got me fired up to put the sneak on a deer or two this year.

Now if I can just find some good stalking boots…:D

Yes, I think a few ground blinds depending on wind direction and weather, should certainly help! 8) Good luck, everyone!

26 Days to go here to the Archery Opener. 🙄

I have never hunted any other way untill this season, this is my first year hunting from a tree, definaly different, but it definatly has its place in the hunting industry. I still prefer the ground, more mobility! The tree is a great place to film from though! Here is a still from a video I took on the opening day last week! He is a youngin and the brush is thick but you can make him out!

One must remember that: Treestand=a safety belt or harness. Harness better.
I have read Freds Books. The Stalking and Stillhunting was a great book full of good info which I have employed to kill a few on the ground since.
The Goal for any groundhunter is to remain out of thier line of sight.
This is where the ground blinds really work.
Natural ground blinds which meld in with the flora and the wind being right, along with the proper timeing of your shot as the deer passes you is a lethal situation for the deer.

Well got out today, even though off and on rain all day. Set up a ground blind in one of my favorite areas,a Beech knoll that juts out inside a hollow overlooking a swamp. The deer come to the beechnuts in mid to late October when they drop. This area is a perfect funnel and perfect food that draws them in. I didn’t want to wait any longer, needed to get my ground blind set up well in advance of the season starting. It’s a simple 4′ x 15′ piece of camo burlap that I’ve tied across 3 trees in a triangle, I used brush and sticks to apply cover and blend it in a bit. I am ready for this!
