Alaska Bowhunting Supply (in the “Garage Sale”) has seconds in Grizzlysticks for $19.95 per three shafts plus shipping.
NORMALLY they are 79.95 for six!

Copy and past Alaska Bowhunting Supply and past it google. It will pop right up, then click GARAGE SALE top right part of the page.

If you wanna hit EFOC the easy way for some super duper shooting arrows (that Doc highly recommends in one of his reports) THIS WOULD BE IT.

FYI there is also some 20 and 50 grain additional inserts that screw into the insert NOT on sale and recommend picking up some aluminum nock adapters for reg nocks as well. Standard nocks are TIGHT on my string so getting some myself.

Ive some 660 grains total, with 210 grain heads, the standard 70 grain brass insert and one 50 grain additional shooting like bullets!

        EFOC?? 25.8%

Here I was gonna offer some Grizzlystik Sitka shafts for some Abowyer or 😆 Ashby heads…..and they went and RUINED IT for me, LOL!

        Just a head’s UP!

        God Bless!
        Steve

Alaska Bowhunting Supply is a Tradbow.com advertiser, so we’ll just put that link right here: ABS Garage Sale

There are also some arrows in the Classified Ads under Equipment.

Steve Sr. — I have a dozen ABS Alaska shafts and they are all you say — really well made and I love the extreme taper. I have no trouble with the insert nocks because I shoot Shrews with skinny strings and they fit just right. However, I’ve given up on Grizzlystik due to the “soft side” challenge. They tell you when you buy them that one side is weaker or stiffer (can’t recall which as it’s been a while) and to rotate and flex the shafts until you i.d. that side and fletch accordingly. Well, I just can’t seem to find it, so I just fletched mine and fully half don’t shoot worth a darn. I rotate each arrow on the string and usually one of the hen feathers will be in the right spot to use as the cock, or close enough, to get ’em shooting good. But then I have to code each arrow as to which feather to use as the cock (or refletch, no thanks), and it really gets to be a pain. So I gave up and went to el cheapo Carbon Express on sale at Walmart, which have no taper, aren’t as well made, but can be fletched any old way and shoot absolutely great. Also, because they’re lighter than the ABS shafts, it’s much easer to get EFoC. With overall arrow weight at 680 I’m running 26+ percent. I wrote Ed at ABS and told him I know they were losing market share due to this problem, and that at least they should locate and mark the soft/weak side on each shaft. I’m not the only one who has given up. Clearly you have a more sensitive touch! Darn good shafts with a needless liability. If you or someone could explain an idiot-proof way to tune ABS shafts, it would be appreciated by many. Thanks, Dave

After reading this thread and looking at the Garage Sale, I decided to buy 6 of the Alaskans. I received them today and they look great. I hope they shoot as well as they look. The only problem I can see with them is that the words Grizzly Stick is a bit scuffed but only a little. I can’t wait to get them set up for my bow!! I’m anxious to see how they shoot. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks guys and glad someone could use the tip.

                Dave,
I’m glad you brought that up, because I flat forgot and it is something people need to know.

Probably not news to anyone but if you put one end on a table and while slightly bending the shaft with one hand and keeping it bent while you roll the shaft you’ll find the soft side rapidly. Using close to steady pressure while rolled it will rapidly “flip” downwards when you hit the soft side. Continuing to roll it you will feel the shaft lift again when the stiff side is encountered.

I don’t know if ALL the Grizzlystiks are like the 10 I have but on each of mine the stiff side is right where the lettering is.

I read that Ed suggested shooting the stiff side against the riser, Ive seen no difference between there or faced out which is a 180 degree rotation but each should use this info to test in their own set up. Of course, you need to check each shaft for the soft/stiff side and not assume all are the same, but again, mine were.

Nice to know there are strings the nocks fit. My B50 flemish twist on my old Super K makes it just tighter than I like but still shoots ok. It just makes the shot louder.

The aluminum nock inserts and my choice of nock just worked out better for my preferences.

So far I’ve found them to be right up there with the best flying arrows I’ve ever assembled and Im not a carbon shooter normally, not at all, but so far I’m impressed.

EFOC is a breeze, as you said, Dave. For my 29 inch shafts the normal brass insert and any head around 200 grains succeeds in surpassing the 20 percent FOC area. Adding a brass weight from ABS before gluing the insert in or a head with a glue in steel insert…..you can go considerably up from there depending on the spine weight you need and what will fly, of course.

I’ve no answer as to why some are not getting good arrow flight and hate to see it. An arrow that wont fly is expensive even if half price. 😉

I’d only suggest really stacking weight on the front if they don’t fly. Ive put weight on the front TRYING to get them to show underspine flight and its a LOT for my bows.

A bit over a month for deer season here in Indiana. Praying for an early cold snap. LOL.

                Later gang!

Steve — Thanks for your explanation of the Grizzlystick tuning process. But golly, I have the same problem as Dave. I reckon we just ain’t got the touch and need it to be idiot proof! (Sorry, Dave :D). SEriously I herd a rumor that ABS will be offering their shafts minus that problem before long. Don’t know if they’re new models or just a difrent mfg. process. Otherwise, super-dooper shafts! bb

Any idea if the complete arrows have this problem or just the ones you fletch yourself? I wonder it they find the weak/stiff side before they send out the complete fletched arrows.

                      Just a head’s up.

I picked up a couple more and there was NOT a weak side on this second set.

Unsure if it’s true but I saw online someone claimed they were improving on this.

Give Ed a call and ask. Im sure he will be up front with you.

                      Steve
