I am getting the urge to make a new reflex/deflex long bow. Usually this doesn’t happen till after the season, but what can I say. I need help with ideas for a new grip. I’ve tried shallow pistol grips, deeper grips (hybrid bow needs a hybrid grip, right?) bulbus grips of self bows and howard hill traditional grips.
Nothing is gripping me this time:) I need inspiration. What’s your favorite reflex deflex longbow grip and why?

Dennis, Thanks for the pictures. I have made increasingly complex grips and gotten very pretty bows that don’t seem friendly. So I was pretty set on going back to the basics. Looking at your riser, the fade outs seem to have a steep slope. How is it holding up? Do you attribute anything good or bad to this taper? And finally, would you attach a picture of the riser from the belly side?
Thanks again. This is just the inspiration I needed!!!:D
Oh yea, I put the finger contours on my last bow, same as you show here. And I am thinking it makes me lazy in my grip. How do you feel about the finger contours?

I was a little concerned about the slope too but this bow is just 30#@28 so I don’t think it is going to matter too much with it. I am going to make the next one with the same riser design but I am going to make an insert to put in the form that will make the curve a litle shallower. That will allow me to lessen the angle on the belly side of the riser so it isn’t so ‘flat-backed’ without making it longer.
I like the finger grooves mainly because it breakes down the sharp angle of the riser edge a little more. I think it actually helps my grip a little more on this bow.
I’ll try to get another picture of the riser for you.
Dennis
