I found a great pull through knife sharpener that works and leaves a SMOOTH sharp edge and doesn’t wreck the blade like the carbide pull through’s do. It uses course and fine ceramic rods that don’t dig into the blade like the carbide sharpeners do. Check out this link: http://www.accusharp.com/products/334C/index.html
Now they have another one that uses a diamond rod that’s a little more course: http://www.accusharp.com/products/017C/index.html

Softpoint — So you have actually used this tool? I like the concept of two-stage sharpening and honing. But the size is small and way you have to hold it with just two fingers doesn’t look like it would provide enough grip to hold it steady as you pull the blade through, compared the the full-sized full-hand-grip models. And I couldn’t find pricing on the website. What’s it sell for? Thanks, Dave

Yes, I tried it on a Gerber knife I have and it sharpened it right up. smooth sharp finish. I believe it’s best use is in the field for a knife that has a good edge but needs to be touched up while field dressing/skinning/boning. It isn’t coarse enough to sharpen a dinged up blade. Maybe the diamond one is more suitable for that, or a sharpening stone once the hunt is over. They sell these both on Amazon. I paid $2.80, that’s right $2.80 for mine with free usmail shipping. Now it looks like it’s about $8 for the ceramic, and $12 for the diamond. I haven’t tried it on the BHA life member Helle yet, I can’t dull that one….after 2 deer it’s still shaving hair. Maybe I really don’t need a sharpener.

I use something very similar to touch up my deboning knife during butchering. They’re extremely handy.

Guys…I got one that I bought at a sporting show some 20 yrs. ago that’s a diamond sharpener and hone and I’ve never had anything but sharp knives come off of it. It’s got a full handle you can really it hold steady. I’ve used it on the Zwickey Eskimos I hunted with, but now I use a KME on my No Mercy’s and I can get them a bit sharper, as it gives a more precise edge. I paid around $12 for the diamond one back then and a few pesos more for the KME. I like my old one because it’s quick on knives for a touch-up.Wish I had the skills of Clay Hayes does in sharpening. Oh well…. Wayne
