Shooting the Predator
The first group in a new target 😕
The second group a little better…. then down hill from there 😥
Then some sit down shooting and wiping sweat…
Homemade camp/hunt seat…just add camo pads
Yep, I’ve got some work to do!

Yup know how you feel. Shot three years right handed then had to make the switch to lefty about two months ago. Can keep em all in a paper plate out to about 10 meters, then it all goes sour. Hopefully a Deer walks within ten yards of me this year.
What distance were yah shooting? -
I have a used 3-D insert that I got from a local archery shop for free. It makes a great target, but I’m finally wearing it out in one place.

“Arrows that hit all around the spot” I think its my taper tool not centering the tapers on my shafts…..
“How far yah shootin'” 15 and 20 yards, about my skill limit. If I was in good shape with my practice I might go 25 yards.
Went out with 2 arrows at first light. Drilled the spot with the first 2 shots.

Duncan,
What a great target! Nice job on the roof. The deer sketch shows an artists hand! And the antlers are a fine touch.
I spent the weekend stump shooting in the blue ridge. Found an apple tree loaded with apples. Sat on the hill above it and shot apples off the tree. I was hot!
Oh well, it’s down hill from here I am sure. I hate when I peek too early in the year…
I’m glad you are back to posting a bunch. I missed your thoughts!

Steve,
Well, I had wanted a roof over that foam bale for years and I set out to build one this weekend when I noticed the dog house, once occupied by a dog that is long gone, was rotting on the sides but the removable roof was still good so I recycled it and tore down the rest of the house. The antlers are some plastic ones that came with a deer target, I always seemed to be tripping over them so on an impulse I mounted them to the new target roof.
Thanks for the compliment on the art work. I usually make my own targets but will buy them if I find a neat one like those deer photos blown up to poster size. I used to buy those.
Sounds like you had a great time in the Blue Ridge this weekend. Sounds like a great place to hunt.
I peeked in on the forum all summer, but I was hanging out on the fishing/boating forums alot making a nuisance of myself. Did not actually fish as much as I wanted to due to the extreme heat but still had some fun.
Now I’m starting to get excited about bow season coming up and being able to hunt on Sunday gives us an extra day each weekend. Good to hear from you.

Made up some camo cedar shafts……
Fletching ’em up……
Tipped with 125 gr Zwickey 2 blade. This one found the elusive piece of blue tape!
Can you tell I’m getting excited about deer season? I was happy that there were no fliers in this half dozen. They are all wanting to be number one in my quiver!

SteveMcD wrote: Duncan.. that’s a great Bale House you got there! 8) Do you use that for Broadheads also?
Don’t look at the deer.. only thing you should see is the blue tape. AIM SMALL. 😀
The foam bale with the roof over it is good for broadheads. The shop I bought it from in the 80’s said it was carpet foam over-run. They cut it into blocks with a chainsaw and it sold for about $30.00.
Visualize the blue tape…….

Finally, after a bunch of shooting, I’m rewarded with a nice first group this afternoon from about 15 yards. 20 yards is about my personal limit for deer but if conditions were right I might take a 25 yd shot but I need more shooting for that.
Just need it to cool down a little more…….

I use spray paint to put dots on my target. I wish I could spray paint a spot on the deer before I take a shot at one. I am still working on that one. Maybe a paint ball gun on all the deer in my area may be a good warm up for the actual hunt. 😀
