Well its taken three years but I finally killed a Grouse, and on opening day to boot! Magnus broadhead darn near took his head right off so there was no trouble recovering this one. Lost 2 arrows shooting at others though.

Congratulations! Getting a bird with a bow is a real trophy. I am still after my first. I hear flu-flu arrows might help with arrow recovery.

Congratulations! As an avid grouse hunter I have often thought of giving them a try with my longbow, as well.
Congratulations1 That is a real trophy!
Question.. would you have considered using a small game blunt instead? I was thinking of using Ace Hex Heads…….

Steve I have tried judos for them in the past, but kinda lost faith in them after I bowled a Ruffie over with one only to have him get up and fly away.

Congratulations!

Man, I wish we had some of those chickens around here!
Congratulations too!

Wildschwein,
Congrats on the grouse. They’re one of my favorite small game to hunt, on the rare occasion that I am able to do so.
With respect to Ace Hex Heads, they are outstanding on smaller grouse species (ruffed and spruce). I shot over a dozen ruffed and spruce with them a few years ago in Ontario, and killed every one I hit. Most of them just flipped over dead.

Wildschwein,
Is that a ruffie? Nice bird…congrats! I didn’t get out for our bird opener yesterday, but with our deer and elk opener coming up on Saturday, I should be able to get in the woods at least once this weekend. Keep slingin’ arrows!
I’ve shot a number of grouse with my Grizzly, and have actually had better luck recovering them with my bow than my .22, typically. I use anything from the hard rubber bludgeon type blunts to judos, and have had little problem with losing them. Of course, when you center-shoot them in the body, the judo or blunt typically opens’em up enough they don’t really feel up to going very far. My uncle uses empty .357/.38 brass as a cheap, dispensable blunt. Just epoxy the head on over a trashed field tip, and it works great. Especially if you have arrows that have been bent and re-straightened multiple times. LOL.
Michael.
