Hello all! My name is Jim and I am 18 years old. I have just begun to get really interested in bow hunting and I wanted to know if there are any really great books out there that I should read while I am stuck at college. Thank you.

              Jim,

Are you just getting into hunting or are you moving into bowhunting from an existing hunting background?

I have been hunting for years now and I am just moving into bowhunting. Deer hunting is still relatively new to me as I usually waterfowl hunt.
My father used to bow hunt a lot but I just never had the motivation to dedicate the time to it when I was younger and since I am away at school now, I can’t do very much except read, and reading is good.

Welcome, Jim.. “The Traditional Bowhunter’s Handbook by TJ Conrad would be an excellent start.

You said that you are moving into bowhunting . . . do you mean traditional bowhunting, or just bowhunting:?:

Update: You ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, MUST get “Instinctive Archery Insights” by Jay Kidwell. I’ve drank the koolaide, and it’s good stuff! 😉 😀

With all due respect to all previous mentioned (and implied) authors, make it your next book. It’ll put the whole shot process into perspective and give you a great foundation to “begin” your journey (no matter where you are in that journey).

Another excellent resource and one I can’t recommend too much, is Anthony Camera’s ” Shooting the Stickbow- A Practical Approach to Classical Archery”. Not a hunting book but 380 pages of encyclopedic knowledge of everything else archery- for beginners to old salts. An essay about the pioneer Earl Hoyt and photos, care and restoration of his wonderful collection of early Bear and Hoyt recurves.
Hey, we have to something this miserable winter- sheets of water incessantly pouring down here in the PNW for the past week- and so pick up some good books and make some arrows!
