Has anybody come up with a good game point/blunt heavy enough to match the FOC arrows they are shooting? I am shooting 300 gr Tuffheads/fieldpoints and am not to sure on how to make a blunt with the same weight so I stay consistant with what I am shooting/practicing with.

Tuffhead has 225 grain hex-head glue-on blunts and I’ve urged Joe to add 300s so that he’ll be offering a complete set–broadheads, field points, blunts–for both weights. Of course if you’re shooting screw-ins it’s easy to add head weight with steel adapters.

Great, thanks for the tip Dave. I missed those on their site.

If you go to Tuffhead you won’t see all the accessories. There should be a link there to Vintage Archery for all products. 3Rivers and others have hex head glue-ons up to 200 grains.

I just thought I’d through in my cent and ahalf

I got my 300grn small game thumpers from VPA at raptor-VPA.com. They are a hex head and shoot just as good as the field points I use.

                Good luck

Put a 1/4-20 washer behind your field point. Cheap, easy, and works just fine for stumping or rabbit thumping.

If you put a beer bottle cap in front of that washer, it works great on grouse and hares and never gets lost in brush and grass. Also, fun and easy to replace !

I am SUCH an idiot man. I saw your suggestion to use a bottle cap like that on another thread, promptly went and drunk a beer, put the cap behind the target head and shot my backyard target. The cap crumpled back over the shaft on the first shot and I thought ‘well that’s a crap idea’. But I didn’t put it with a washer, just by itself. I am such a dunce. As soon as I get off work I’m having another beer 😉

Ha! That reminds me of the Homer Simpson quote: “Beer, the cause and solution to all of life’s problems.”

X 2. Heavy, devastating on whatever they hit, and I’ve had no quality issues with them whatsoever.

Sounds like some great ideas and cause for more research and testing!:) I think a few bottles of beer will need to be disposed of in order to obtain accurate results. Then again, accuracy may suffer in direct proportion to the amount of beer consumed, although purely for researches sake in the name of science:)

I wouldn’t suggest shooting targets with the bottle cap point, but they are great for some small game. I’ve thumped a few squirrels and grouse with them and a couple rabbits and had great results. Maybe not the best stumping head though.

On the original question ,,,,,,,,,,,matched weight on field point , Hammer (wicked blunt) , Ace Standard with steel adapter . All weigh 250 grains and all fly perfectly.

I am shooting 225gr Tuffheads and the Hex Blunt at 225gr is great. My other method of matching BH weight has been Woody Weights and a 125 gr. Blunt. My suggestion is to try Woody Weights if available in 75gr and the 225gr. Hex Blunt to bring you to 300 grains. I have had no failures at the joint between the W.Weights and the blunt and they have been shot plenty!

That’s my cent ‘n a half on the subject.
