Any opinions or reviews on the Fred Asbell haversack? I was wondering what the inside looks like? How are pockets made? Any pictures or reviews would be helpful. I have been using a small ( FANNY PACK ) for the last several years. One of the main zippers broke on my last hunt. It was a cheap pack, and I was never completely satisfied with it. The zippers were really loud. The Asbell haversack has really got my attention. I am just not sure how the haversack will hunt? Thanks for any opinions.

I really like mine. It has two big pockets and two small ones.

I changed the strap to where I have quick disconnects on both ends where I can undo the strap and just slick it off rather than do the over the head thing. I also added two knotted leather straps, one at each of the main strap connect points so I can tuck either under my belt, depending on which side I’m carrying it on, or through the belt loop on the back of my britches to keep the bag in place rather than have it swing in the way if I bend over or whatever.

Don’t look at the the three under tab. That hasn’t been that great of an experience for this old feller. Teaching this old dog new tricks don’t always work :D

Looks like you got it figured out pretty good. So on the inside of the Haversack there are two inside pockets? Does that give you three different storage compartments?

There’s two large inside pockets and two small ones (appx 6″x6″)

Small ones are just right for small flashlight, phone, little goodies. I keep my phone in the small pocket that’s up against my body and my flashlight in the one on the outside. Both of these small pockets are internal to the bag.

I have a pouch that I put inside one of the big pockets that contains my emergency stuff (TP) 😉 and such. A Mora knife and it’s sheath clip to the divider between the two large pockets.

A pair of gloves and a large silk kerchief are also in the bag.,

Thank you for the information. I defiantly want one; they appear to be very silent.

I love mine. It is around five years old now and has served more than one purpose in the time I have owned it. Possibles bag for muzzleloading, stuffed with a spare shirt it can be used as a boat cushion, cushion for sitting on ground while hunting, spare dog food and water for bird hunting, on and on it goes. Well; I broke down and placed order tonight. Olive drab. Should be here toward the end of the week. I am looking forward to hunting with it.

I did manage to make a short hunt with the new Haversack. I have realized that it does have some advantages over the ” fanny pack ” but it also has numerous disadvantages. It will take several hunts before I completely make my mind on which pack works the best for my style of hunting. One thing I noticed immediately was how silent the Haversack is; it makes zero noise. I realize each hunter has a different technique as to how they hunt. I feel that the fanny pack is a little more comfortable while walking. I also noticed a small tear on one of the inside pockets; I will need to get it fixed before the wool rips. I will continue to use the Haversack for several more hunts.
