I have been entertaining this very question lately myself. I have been thinking about adding a foot to the hex shafts I have been looking at. I have also been hearing about how sitka spruce is lighter than cedar… So many options, so little motivation…
But if you have some arrow lying around, and some heavy wood, and a sander and a band saw or hack saw, you can make a few arrows yourself without too much trouble. To test the principle and the spine.
If you are going to buy the arrows from someone already finished, they should be knowledgeable enough to get you some arrows that meet your current spine requirements. I would guess that footed arrows will perform better than non footed arrows just because of the added foc.
I guess the short and sweet of it is that, if you don’t want to make them yourself, contact an arrow smith and see what he/she can do for you.

I have two sets of footed arrows from Whispering Wind Arrows. He has different materials for the footing and uses a pine hex shaft that he gets from Canada . I might add:wink:
I am really happy with the arrows. You can buy shafting or finished arrows. Check out his website . Sorry I do not have the computer savvy to provide the link.

Hello and welcome, Bullcalf. I don’t think you need to worry about footed shafts being a whole different world than regular shafts. Over the years I’ve had a few dozen, each by a different arrowsmith, and have not noticed any specific “footed behaivor” characteristics as opposed to regular shafts. I’m currently shooting footed hex-pines from Whispering Wind in MT, with 200-grain Grizzly heads, and am yet to break one. But this set-up doesn’t offer much in the way of FOC because the wood is fairly heavy. Two more proven reliable sources are the Feathered Shaft (Fletcher posts here), who prefers light strong woods such as Surewood and will custom-make footed shafts to your specs (though last I heard from Rick, he was a bit backlogged in orders). Dave Doran of Archery Past also handles footed shafts and is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, just give a call.
I hope I didn’t misunderstand your question, and that this is some help. You can likely find an arrowsmith who will provide you with an arrow of different footed shafts to try with your set-up. It’s all fun, dave

Thanks, all. Between your input and some well placed phone calls, I’ve found some in different spins and make-up that I can shoot until I find what I’m looking for. Whispering Winds sure seems to have some great stuff and I may get a douzen when I find what I need.
God Bless,
JD
