Well, here it is. My fourth attempt and maybe my final? Nah, who am I kidding. This one didn’t finish where I wanted it too. Tillering it out lost weight. I wish it was that easy for me, a few scrapes and boom, 15 lbs gone!:D Enjoy the pictures. I have a few finishing touches but there it is…

P.S. Check out Clay’s post, it’s what I followed. Thanks Clay!

Jeremy, your problem is absolutely common to beginning bowyers, myself definitely included. Thus do we accidentally build a lot of “kids” bows. 😛 Depending on a lot of things, it’s possible to get the draw weight up to where you want it by cutting the limb tips to make the bow shorter. But this only works if you have a pretty long bow to start with, and there’s always the danger of falling into the “leveling the table legs” trap. But a thought worth entertaining, at least. Purdy bow you have there.

Thanks for the kind words men. It shoots good as far as I’m concerned. My arrows that I have are over spined for sure. I’m assuming that’s why they drop and go right (I am a lefty shooter). Either that or the nock point needed adjusting, which I did, just haven’t shot since then.

I need to order some wood shafts that are spined properly then we’ll go from there. It is fun though to pull it back let ’em fly.

Nebraska’s opener is right around the corner. Gotta practice…

Very Pretty! And nice looking limbs at full draw. If you have a supply of osage, then you are set. I made a few, and always ended up where you did, light of limb. And light in the pocket. And my efforts never seemed to last too long.

So I have decided to take the long view. I started some osage trees from some horse apples my uncle sent me from KS. They are about 4 ft tall now. So maybe when they get big enough to make bows from, I’ll be patient enough to do it right 🙄

                Good luck hunting with it!

Here are the final pics of my first completed osage longbow. It’s 66″ from tip to tip. It pulls 45# @ 28″. I put a brown paper backing on it, stained antique walnut. Leather wrap is from a garage sale leather jacket I bought and cut up. The arrows are tapered douglas fir tipped with two blade zwickey’s.

The string is from Josh Sowerby of Oliver Stacy string’s. It really bring’s the project together in my opinion. Beaver fur silencer’s and pheasant feather (wind indicator) I added.

Hoping to get close enough to a mule deer this coming Sept. on my grandmother’s land in south western NE. Hopefully I can pull it all together.

                    Enjoy!

Beautiful job — very attractive – balanced looking bow-

                          Like the arrows/bow quiver too—

What part of NE {town} are you hunting, I lived in N/central NE for a couple yrs {Gordon – Home ranch}? Lot of BIG Mule Deer/WhiteTails in that country—-

Thank you for the kind woeds gentlemen. Cyberscout, I’ll be hunting around Curtis and Brady in Hayes/Lincoln counties. It’s about 1/2 hour south and east from North Platte. The only part I’m not looking forward to is the solo drive from here to there. Otherwise, can’t wait!

                              Jeremy –

                              Been thru the area.

Most people don’t realize how good the Hunting is in NE.

A lot of birds and small game of course — but there are BIG Mule deer and Whitetails there! and More Antelope and even Elk in the West/Nwest parts.

                              Good luck !
