Hey folks. I picked up my first Black Widow today. I’m the third owner but its in GREAT shape…not a scuff or a mark on it. Its a SA III 60″ 56# @27″. It has a kind of matte or frosted finish. Can anybody tell me anything about that? I’ve always seem em as shiny as glass. I brought it home and shot 10 arrows through it in the dark and driving rain and just made myself quit. It shot so sweet I could have shot it til daylight. In my last post I was ready to just give up but this has brought me hope. I love this bow! It actually hits where I point it, like bows I have read about. I had to trade my carry pistol for it but I’m COMPLETELY satisfied that I made the right choice. To say that I’m tickled with it would be a gross understatement.

Not sure what they called the finish on the SAs. You definitely got you a good bow. I started with a Widow MB years ago and then went to a MAIII. Shooting their longbows now. There are a lot of great bows out there, but the Widows work well for me. Congrats and enjoy!

Congrats on the black widow! I would like to see a pic or two if possible.

Here are a few pics. I got to shoot it a little more today. I’m still completely happy with it. It shoots like a dream…best groups I have ever shot with traditional tackle. No buyers remorse here! 😀

Shag — I owned a BW once and it was a gorgeous bow. Congrats on getting one at a bargain price. If these analogies are worth anything, I haven’t bought a new car since 1969 nor a new spouse since 1981, and have never been left stranded on the road by either. Let someone else pay the price for that “new car smell.” 😀 I can’t think of anything that speaks better for a bowyer than the resale value of his art. Now go get some blood on it! 😀 Dave

Hey guys. Thanks for the replies and the compliments…they mean alot, especially coming from this community.

Dave–I’m right there with you on sticking with time tested (not used or old) things that work. I’ve got two trucks and both of them are used 95 models. All of my guns are second hand. All of my bows, other than my compound, are second or third or fourth hand. I’m still a young man I guess (I’ll be 29 in two weeks) and I’m sticking with the wife I’ve got now. She’s beautiful and she puts up with all my bad habits. The biggest problem we have is deciding which one of us goes hunting and which one needs to stay home with our little girl. I love familiar things that earn their keep time and time again. Theres only 4 days of deer season left here in TN so I doubt I get a chance to get any blood on an arrow this season…can’t wait til next year!!!

I fell in love with a widow last March after looking the other way for the last 20 years or so. I have to admit, it is the best shooting bow I have EVER owned.

I called Black Widow today. They said the bow shipped on Sept. 05, 1995. I guess I just love 95 models no matter what it is. On a side note, I’d like to say that the folks at BW are the nicest and most helpful customer service people I have ever dealt with. I love this bow but after talking with them I’m tempted to save up the cash and buy a new one from them. I like to spend my hard earned money on a quality american made product. I like it even more when I call the company and an actual person who is nice and helpful picks up the phone. I still by albums because the artist gets the money…I think, in time, I’ll buy a new black widow so these great folks can get paid for what they deserve.

I personally love my Black Widow bows. My father owns one of their last handcrafted MA’s and I plan on using it for a memorial hunt after Pop is no longer with us…Congrats on the bow, you won’t be disappointed.

Congrats on the new bow! I toured BW’s shop this year and bought my first BW. It is a longbow with Bocote wood, toby grip and a beaver tale handle. I got to meet all the guys at Black Widow. When I picked up my new bow they helped me tune for the best shooting arrows and provided good tips for shooting technique. This is a truly red-blooded American group of people running a great business and making American-quality products!

                                    Cannoc,

I’d say that is a beautiful bow. I have an antelope hunt coming up this fall in Wyoming. On my way back to Tennessee I plan to stop by the factory in MO and take the grand tour. I hope work is good this summer so I can have the money laid back to buy a bow on my way back home. But either way, I will have a new Widow someday.
