Sure will. Took My first bear with a 45# Kodiak Magnum. Key to it all is practice, practice, practice. Multiple angle shots. And most of all don’t let the bear psych you out. Pick a spot, focus and release. Just like a deer….That can claw the stuffing out of You….Good luck

Im sure it will. The important things are to be disciplined with your shot choice and try to get good at judging them before your hunt. They will all look big!

Congrats on your tag. Which unit did you get?

Also, I assume you will be doing all the baiting yourself?

If so, getting in the right areas could mean the difference BIG TIME!

We used to do all of our own baiting in canada. Our best spots were on regular travel and transition areas. Old logging roads, powerlines, and gaslines would usually get hit pretty quickly. Also, odd topography features like abrupt ridges and saddles, and edges of boggy marshes were usually great. Any place the bugs were exceptionally bad seemed to hold bears. Keep us posted! There are fewer places I would rather spend an afternoon that a backwoods bear bait!

Agreed Etter, I tend to have best luck at baits near swamps or water of some kind. Don’t know why. As for the lethality of the set up, My set up is very close to the same and it was plenty enough for this bear !!

                    40# Howatt (overdrawn

to 46#), 575 grain arrow, Bear Razorhead,18% FOC

I also got my Wis tag, took 8 years for unit D. I ordered and received some Western Larch shafts today- hope to end up with a 600-620 gr arrow after gluing on a 160 gr. woodsman.

I shoot a Big Rivers Flat bow at 58 pounds.. Have been using the same head on ceder shafts total weight about 510 gr. for years but want to bump up the mass weight some for this falls bear and deer hunts. “It is good to have a reason to make more arrows!” 😀

                              congrats on your bear tag!

Your set up will work perfect as mentioned.

I have only killed a few bears and helped track a few others so im no expert. But so far what I have noticed is if you hit them right they don’t go far at all. But I helped track a couple that were not hit so well and those were tough. The hair soaks up the blood and makes for some tough tracking.

My advise is keep your shots close (no need to set up at 20 yards, 12-15 is better IMO.) And wait for the perfect shot.

Nothing like bear hunting! Congrats again on the tag and good luck on the hunt.

Do dogs or baiters go first this year?
