I’ve dealt with it for years and it’s always been at my side. I have always had an issue with getting to full draw. I “hit a wall” about an inch short of full draw and it forces me to jerk and “snap shoot” at the target. Even so, I’ve been a competent archer but decided finally to get this done once and for all. I had bought a book a few years ago called “Instinctive Archery Insights”. It has a number of exercises for curing target panic and I’ve tried them with some success before but I always go back to regular shooting.

Last week, I decided to quit shooting and only focus on the exercises. Two shooting sessions per day and I have not got it on the ropes but I have, for sure, gotten the upper hand now.

I’m shooting better than I ever thought possible and am finally having fun again as well.

If you suffer from this nightmare, you should buy this book and give it a shot. It does work. Look out bear, deer, pigs, rabbits, and javelina!

          Etter,

It’s always good to read that someone is making improvements. Those are some dark days when you are struggling with shooting. It’s a lot more fun when it’s working. All the best, dwc

That’s great news. Once in a while I get a little freaky and go off half cocked too. To suffer at every shot and keep at it is a testament to your determination. Keep at it!

I do not get it much anymore. But when I do not reach full draw I can tell right away from my arrow hitting left. At least I can recognize it and correct it. Shooting with groups in 3D helps, as your being watched by the other shooters, and it can help you to focus more.

I, for one, still constantly battle my nemesis, target panic. I’ve read the book mentioned above as well. Sometimes I manage, other times it’s all I can do not to wrap my bow around a tree, out of complete frustration. This thread reminded of my thread from FIVE YEARS AGO! 😯 Blows my mind!

Yep, I think I got it going my way then it bites me on the butt. At least it’s not a 24/7 thing.

One thing I’ve learned is that if I keep shooting at the same target, things go south in a hurry. No offense meant to those of you in the south. Besides, it’s all relative. 🙂
