I have seen bows with the feather arrow rest and remember when Bear archery used them on their bows. Are they really worthwhile for any reason??? I mean, they were installed as standard equiptment on new bows (back then…..Am I telling my age?) and sold as accessories and/or replacement parts. Does anyone use them today or have you used them in the the past??? Apparently they never went over too big or we’d still be using them today…..right??? Just wondering…..Bullseye

I suppose they were more popular back before folks turned their noses up at shooting off arrow rests. Regardless, a lot of people still use them today, and they are available through a few online vendors. Personally, I used one for a few years off my grandfather’s 60s Root recurve and liked it a lot. But for pure effectiveness, it’s hard to beat a stick on flipper rest.

J.W. How do the feather arrow rests wear ??? I assume using one would allow you to use vanes ??? I have been shooting off the shelf for a long time now. Am trying to see if it’s worth the time and trouble to set my bow back up with an elevated arrow rest. Any other yea or nays here ??? Thanks, Bullseye

I’ve never tried shooting vanes off a feather rest. Most feather rests I’ve seen keep the arrow relatively close to the shelf, so you still may get some contact. If you want to try vanes, I’d suggest a stick on flipper type rest (T-300 and NAP Flipper II are both excellent choices). As far as durability, I’ve always found feather rests extremely tough.

I use it. I just glued on an old arrow feather. I need to because I shoot with a thumb ring and the tension makes the arrow swing AWAY from the bow. With standard shooting gloves, just twist toward the bow at the end of your draw and you wouldn’t need one.

Just curious, does the “wet feather syndrome” effect feather rests?
