The monthly meeting for the Montana Bowhunters Association will be at Fawn Creek Campground Saturday Jun 5th at 4:30pm and they will also have a shoot. Plenty of traditional shooters will be there.

Myself and MontanaFord are planning on attending, but the weather is calling for rain 👿 Our weather here has left a lot to be desired as of late. But, that is what makes getting outdoors fun I guess.

I will try and take as many pictures as I can, as this is another hobby of mine as well.

This shoot is known as the Fisher River Shootout, hosted by the Libby Archery Club. This shoot recently (3 or 4 years ago) replaced the previously known Pipe Creek Shootout, once held at the Pipe Creek Campground, a few miles northwest of Libby. The Libby Archery Club puts on a traditional-only shoot every May, and then they open their second shoot to all archers in June. Can’t exclude the wheel-gun shooters ALL the time, can we? LOL. And yes, at this point, I’m hoping to be able to make the shoot. I’d like my wife and all my kids to be able to go, but if we go up as a family, we want to go up overnight…tent-camp weather permitting. If the weather doesn’t straighten up, I’ll probably just go up with the boys for the day. It’s a 2-day shoot, so anybody within driving distance that wants is invited to come up and shoot.

          Michael.

I had hoped and even planned to make it to the Primitive get-together at that same location next month. Alas, cabin repairs took priority, travel money and free time. Looks like I’ll be going nowhere this summer, again. We need to support our western shoots and banquets, and try to “grow” them as there are so few compared to the rest of the country. –seldom seen dave

I wasn’t aware that there was a Primitive get-together up here. Might be worth looking into, just to learn more about it. Do you have the dates handy for the primitive shoot, Dave? I try and make the Traditional-only shoot in May, and this weekend’s shoot, plus a couple other local (within 60 miles or so) shoots that are put on by other archery clubs.

              Michael.

There is also the http://www.tradbowmt.org that is having the 28th Annual North American Longbow Safari June 26th/27th 2010, Fawn Creek Campground, Libby MT.

I would like to go to this one, BUT, I won’t be there.

I think the Longbow Safari and the Primitive events are joined there for the same weekend. Chad Sivertsen knows.

I don’t have any woods yet with broadheads on them, so I won’t be able to shoot it this year.

                        Hi guys,
I got lost in cyberspace but found my way back.

Darn it Dave, I was looking forward to your visit. I do understand though as we also have too much to do keeping up our house and property.

Fawn Cr. is just over the mountains so I will be there to help set up, see old friends, make some new ones and shoot a few arrows. I will also be helping at the Montana Backcountry Hunters and Anglers booth.

NALS is longbows, wood arrows with broadheads only for most targets. Bow birds and running deer use field points I think. John Strunk will have his bow building class before the event. THis is an old time event, if Dave was going I might call it primitive.

Entry is by pre-registration which closed in May but there might be exceptions. I’m not in charge so that is not official.

Michael and Cottonwood, There will be 100s of years of bowhunting experience there and a lot of homemade equipment, some will be primitve weapons that are works of art.

                          Chad

I’m really sorry that I had to miss this event, I was looking forward to going, but my daughter is so close to delivering her first child, another grand child for us, that I decided to hang tuff around Kalispell so I could be available upon a moments notice.

I did utilize the time, into vesting some time into my uncle who had never shot a traditional longbow before. He has had my 45# Selfbow since, but I got to collect it up for camp next week.

So maybe we will cross trails another time.
