I’ve been hunting in units that close gates the past few years. The animals are there but they’re holing up and I agree that it’s a tough season. No elk for me and I couldn’t sneak on a bear (although I passed on some bears) – just got back from the rainforest. Had a little game going on with one Roosevelt bull but he didn’t come home with me.
Best of luck to you.

I envy you guys from the northwest…we have the same problem with “motorbutts” around here in Ohio, but it’s not the same as yours with the invasion of the majestic forests that you have. Good luck with whatever is left of your seasons…May it be a peaceful and successful one!

Been having some what of a tough time myself. Only got to go elk hunting once, as I don’t go elk hunting alone simply because of past health issues with two mild strokes.
But things have been doing good health wise, but just like to keep it safe. We did go into an area that no motorized travel of any kind in this FS area.
I have been to picky on the whitetail, and now have been seeing less and less as the season progressed now going into our last week.
I’m hoping by switching my blind area, and a new location that looks promising on the property will produce a good trad kill for me.

When it rains it pours! I got a good hit on a nice Bear Saturday, but I wasn’t able to recover it. I spent all of Saturday, Sunday, and most of Monday looking for it with no luck. Not an ounce of blood with a high chest hit! Im sick! Bears don’t leave tracks, without blood its impossible to track those critters–Im Sick!

Sorry to hear about the bear, sir. That thick ol’ fur of theirs tends to soak up the blood. Sounds as though you gave it your best effort at trying to recover the critter,Nate. That’s all you can do, so don’t beat yourself up for too long. Get back in the hunt!
