Well everything is tuned to perfection and ready for this friday’s departure. Arrows are flying like lazer guided missiles ….they just need a target zone. Yesterday, I was able to run some arrows thru the chrono at RMSG. Couriosity, definitely killed the cat, I finally had enough and had to know what these arrows were doing. So here’s the deal:
Bow:
60″ 53@28 McCullough Griffin LB w/450+ 6 strand string.
(I’m pulling 28.5″ thinking I’m around 55#)Arrow:
CX Terminator Select 45/60
100 gr Brass insert
160 gr head
125 gr steel adapter or
75 gr steel adapter for a 235 gr set-up
3-5″ ShieldsWeight:
681 +/- 2 grains EfoC….27% 12.4 GPP
635 +/- 2 grains EFoC….25% 11.5 GPPVelocity:
680 gr arrow …………165 fps635 gr arrow………….175 fps
Also shot a 29.5″ BOP Gold Tip. Arrow weight was 585 gr, 10.6 GPP, FoC 23%.
Chrono’d 185 fps.
So it looks as if for every 50 grains of arrow weight, velocity is changed 10 fps.
Anyway, thought it was interesting, not sure how these results stack-up to the rest of the heap, but i do know that the arrows out of this bow fly true and should have no problem anchoring an elk if given the opportunity.

I’d go with the 680s, as the others are below the “minimum bone threshold” for big-big game like elk. Bones on these giant animals are like interior body armor. You may get lucky with arrow placement, or you may not. Why take a chance? And man, that’s a fast bow at 55#. Good luck, dave

Hello Ed
I’m using original Elburg 160 gr Grizzly’s. I believe I got these back in 1987.
I let you know if I blaze an elk!

Hey Dave,
Definitely going with the 680’s! They fly so well. So this bow is fast? I haven’t kept up with velocities and not really sure how it stood up? So that’s good to hear that it is fast! Best of all for me it is hit’s were I aim it!
BTW…how goes the elk battle? Any luck yet?

Mike — so far this has been a banner elk year, with one 4-day “disappearing and silence” period a couple weeks back. This weekend is black powder opener and as every year, those guys running around with bugles glued into their mouths have shut the elk up on most public lands. Damn tragedy to have a smoker season right in the prime of archery season and the rut, but I can’t get CO bowhunters organized to force a change. Stupid CBA has ‘reached an accommodation’ with them. Pooh. Anyhow they’ll fire up again after the end of that season and a calm-down period. So far high points include passing on a cow at 7 yards broadside last night, and being 12 yards from a very nice 5×6 night before last, but no shot op due to dense vegetation even had I decided to take him, which I wasn’t sure I was ready for as the really big boys are yet to enter the game and I have 2 weeks left. Last year was perfect, hunting all 30 days of the season and killing a nice bull on the last day, from 6 feet. I’d love to repeat that trick again! 😯 dave

Dave- Excellent! Gald to see it is going well. I’m definitely chomping at the bit to get out. Leaving Friday!
I totally agree about the smokepolers. I wish they would let them have their week but give us archers an extra week going into Oct. Now that would be the bomb.
Hey have fun the rest of the season and I’ll catch up with you when I get back at the end of the season.
Happy Hunting
