        Friend

We have deer dropping like flies out here in SD! I have been in touch with local ranchers and other hunters who are seeing large amounts of dead deer all over SD. There are some places you drive by which stink from rotting carcasses! I heard the two similar diseases are spread by a fly/midge, is that correct? I heard that once you get some cold nights/freezes the flies die off and the dying stops. Anyone out there who can educate me? Its going be a tuff fall filling the tags.

          Info from SD:

Info from MI, but this one has pretty good photos of a necropsy.

It’s unfortunate. Here in PA we have just had the first reported case of CWD.

Unfortunately, many non-hunters are not aware or educated on what it is or what causes it. Overpopulation is definitely on the list. Also, the article who’s link I posted makes it sound a bit like a “zombie outbreak”. I do not believe this can be transfered to humans (please correct me if I am wrong), but it could decimate our deer population. IMHO – if more people actually knew how hunting could control the spread of disease, they would be much more hunter-friendly if for no other reason than to benefit the animals.
