I like the idea of practicing at longer ranges but that seems difficult with the steep trajectory of a 650 gr arrow. I have been shooting a fixed crawl which seems to be at 15 yards zero with that kind of trajectory. To shoot at 25 yards even I’m below the arrow shelf as a reference to sight picture! How do you guys practice with your Efoc arrows? From what ranges? Should I be happy just shooting out to 25? Go instinctive past then? Which isn’t very consistent for me!

What weight bow are you shooting?
What is your draw length?
What is your arrow length?
What type of bow are you shooting?
There are lots of things that affect how a bow/arrow/archer machine works besides just the weight of the arrow. Tells us the details, maybe someone will have an idea 🙂

Red, as a reference I’m puling about 45# and shooting 635 gr arrows. I shoot instinctively out to about 20 yards. When I get past that I find myself referencing my arrow a lot more. Out at 45 I’m using my arrow tip as a front sight. I’m probably spot on at about 50. You’re right, it gets pretty loopy out there. My groups won’t win any awards out there. It’s for fun or for form work depending on the day. That said I think I’m pretty comfortable saying blind or blank bale is better for me for form practice. However, and I probably contradicting myself, when I practice long, short range shorts are easy. Best, dwc

I practice with a 57# longbow and 680gr arrows instinctively from 1 yard (eyes closed) to about 100yards (eyes open of course! 😛 )
Usually 2 arrows back to back. works for me!

Hi Reddog,
I usually practice on a huge pile of wood shavings. I pick a wood shaving for the first arrow, and I pick the first arrow’s nock for the second shot. I can get pretty consistent at 60 yards, maybe 6 inches apart if I blow my anchor, release and follow thru. That’s why I always start and finish by shooting at point blank range with my eyes closed. It gives me a rock solid shooting sequence, for the rest of my practice.

Alex that is some very impressive shooting IMO. One thing I’ve noticed when shooting heavier arrows from my longbow is a 5/16 arrow shot at 35 yards will have about 10″ more drop than an 11/32 arrow of the same spine and weight! (My theory (guess) is there is more surface area on the wider diameter arrow which allows atmosphere to hold it up longer. I’m wondering if anybody eles has more education on this than I?

Have you thought about setting up for a 20-yard fixed crawl? The gap at 15 would be very minimal, and it would probably get you out to 30 before your hand obstructs your line of sight.
