You can’t expect even a mediocre bow for less than 150.00 and a good will be at least double that. I would be careful. A lot of work goes into a self bow and it is not just a matter of price or any piece of wood would do.
Ebay if an excellent place to buy and sell, and like anywhere else use good judgement. More recently they changed the feedback rules making it a bit harder to tell the good from the bad now everybody looks good. -
Snafu — That’s good advice from Bjorn. I roughly calculate that I spend about 40 hours making a wood-lam bow, and more for a selfbow. Just a good stick (board) of osage costs more than $15. On the other hand if you’re the curious type, you don’t have much to lose on checking out a $15 bow. Good to see both of you posting here. Dave

Self bows are fun to make-does not take a lot of tools and after you make a few ‘sacrificial’ bows to practice basic skills, you are on your way. You can take classes and buy books and DVD’s to learn how.
In the West, John Strunk, Jay St Charles and Ted Fry at Raptor Archery along with a few others, will be glad to show you how, and there are pros out East too. -
I bought a cheap as chips selfbow some years ago on evil bay and she is still out shooting me, no frills just an ash meare heath patern bow, it’s a gamble but in my case paid off.
