Hello, I am brand new to bow hunting. A friend has gotten me interested. I have a 44# recurve bow. I have practiced a bit with it and am really enjoying the challenge of learning to shoot it. Anyway, the goal is to hunt a deer this season. Is 44# enough? Thanks for the help.

Forty-four pounds in more than enough for deer. It wasn’t all that long ago when such poundage was normal for deer hunters (and this was before fast-flight strings and carbon arrows). To be honest, the best deer hunter I ever knew shot 42# @ 26″ and had no problem shooting through deer after deer, year after year.

Yup, should be fine with a well placed arrow, thats what matters the most…of course with a good sharp broadhead.

I use a 40# @ 28″ recurve. I shoot with a draw length about 29″ which is about 43 lbs. I have an arrow set up that gives me 30% UEFOC. MY maximum range is 17 yards. This set up may work for you also. Good Hunting.
