First time I ever did this. And the last for a good while I hope. I hunt about 6 miles from the house. Last evening I walked out at dark and threw my daypack, jacket and stool in the bed of my little truck. Put the bow on the roof just before that. Like a patient w/o his meds…I drove @ 3/4 mile before that O-s–t! feeling hit. Another car went past me from the direction I had just left, so I’m thinking I just lost a bow. Whew…no harm done..but it was in the middle of the rd and easy pickings. Not a scratch on it. Enough said:oops:!

Whew uh Scott. Sometimes we’re living right, or at least living lucky.

My son and I weren’t that lucky once. He came in later than me, I had my stuff all stowed, he said be “in in a minute dad, gotta tinkle”.

He got in shortly and I backed out and felt a little bump and heard a noise. My boy turned as white as a sheet and said “Daddy I laid my bow on the ground behind the tire and forgot”.

Lesson learned for the two of us………

          Glad you were fortunate…

Same thing happened to me one time paleoman. Got ten min. Down the road and no bow, found it back in town two blocks from my house at the edge of the street in the grass, luckily still there and no damage.

Someone should invent a car roof that you can’t put things on 😀

I’ve done it with drinks and one cell phone.

Or better yet, get one of the new Tesla SUV’s. The doors open as you walk up to the car. No need to set the bow down at all…

My wife loaned a bow of hers to our son for his girlfriend to use. He did not remember it was on top of his truck until he was 20 miles from the archery range. He is lucky though she never really liked the bow that much and she really likes her future daughter inlaw.

I heard of a guy that did that and had to buy the bow back from the non-hunter who found it. Not a nice thing to do to someone who had the misfortune of making a mistake.

I have two main rules about cars. Never put anything on them and never shut the door before checking for keys. My employment involves a lot of getting in and out of cars. But sometimes I forget the rules. But at least if you lock yourself out hopefully your coffee is on the roof to drink while you wait for the spare!!!

Put my son (in a car seat) on he roof…once, stood there looking at him a sec, thought about all the things I had left on the roof, and promptly took him off.

                      Yeah, I did a cell phone too…
