I have a 62″ recurve bow designed to pull 60# @ 28″ but it pulls 53# at my draw length of 25″. Would there be any appreciable difference in arrow speed and kinetic energy with a similar bow designed to pull 53# at 25″? Interested in your thoughts and opinions.

Much agreed.

Thanks Arne for your input. I ordered this bow about 20 years past. All I knew about bows was a 28″ AMO standard for draw weight. Wanting a bow that would draw 50# or so for deer hunting, I figured a heavier bow would compensate for my 25″ draw length. For a few years I happily entered the deer woods not giving any thoughts about inferior bow performance. At a traditional bowhunter expo a comment to a bowyer about my setup got a reply that my bow is not as efficient as a bow designed for my draw. Later inquires with other dealers suggested I try a shorter bow which added to my confusion. I appreciate your direct reply and will put this issue to rest.

The only possibility that would make a difference in this scenario is if the new bow were of near exactly the design but significantly shorter and lighter limbs, thus having less mass to move on release. Best case scenario would net 5-10 fps improvement. Otherwise NO!

Thanks Handirifile foe your input. I guess the bowyer has a point about using a heavier bow to compensate for a short draw length is not as efficient as a bow designed at the proper draw. But a net improvement of 5-10 fps is a mute point. Thanks everyone for a unanimous NO!!
