I have a custom made long bow which due to the design has short tips and it is very hard to string the bow using a cup type bow stringer.
Does anyone have the plans or a pic of a bow stringer that works by fastening to the limbs instead of the traditional cup that goes over the tips of the bow?

Hi Swamprat. Have you tried the stringers that have a cup on one end and a rubber piece that goes on the limb? They are available through most every trad archery supplier. If anyone has instructions to make one of these I’d be interested in the plans for a Tip of the Week. 😆

Thanks for the reply. No I haven’t tried or even seen one of them before. I will have to see if I can find one.

Here is the one that Kustom King Traditional Archery sells: Limbsaver Longbow Stringer. It does still have a cup on one end. I’m sure that other suppliers carry them as well. I hope that helps.

Swamprat, you don’t really need a bow stringer for a longbow. Just place the bottom limb tip inside the instep of a boot, grasp the handle with one hand and slide the string up to the top nock with the other hand while applying pressure to bend the upper limb forward with the palm of that same hand and pulling out on the handle with the other. dp

Swamprat…you can take a bowstringer with the leather cups and cut the top cup out, as I did to allow you to place the loop in the grooves. Works good:wink: and I hope you find what you need.

I add pieces of tissue paper until the nock grooves are exposed. Jawge

I may have to try that, but I plan to order one from 3 Rivers or Kustom King tonight.
