I tested my prototype black bear target and it work pretty good so then i made a build along for the brown bear target
i made the black bear for $40 and the brown bear for $80
It is real easy all you need is some 250 pinkboard 2in and 3in deck screws and carpet and last but not least duck tape
And then you mark the shape of the beast your trying to make and then cut it out and use the scrap as fill useing the screws [for my 75 lb long bow with 790 arrows] it take 4 layers to stop the arrows but i used 5 layers so that it will last longer
Once you make the 2 outer layers then you can use the fill for the other 3 layers as you can see in the photos and the you duck tape it so that is is solid and then you can cut the carpet to fit and use screws to hold the hide on
Me and My Dad like them
My plan is 2 bears caribou moose mt goat dall sheep and all life size like i said the black bear was a prototype
heres the pics my next is caribou….

Are you shooting broadheads in them?

no but one could if if they wanted to the life of the target would be much shorter
we just use target points i found that the sharper pointed ones do less damage then the rounded bullet style points
Caribou is waiting for its skin… then the Moose it will be 72H 8ft long with 40in removable legs

I asked, because I use targets stuffed with used plastic grocery bags, when using only target points. These are incredibly tough, yet even when shooting carbons from my Mathews compound, they can be pulled out with two fingers.
The bags last longer than whatever you’re covering them with.
For a deer, it would take a target about 15-18 inches deep, but thickness of the target will have little to no affect on arrow placement, unless it’s a shot from a treestand.
To be clear, I have not used the bags in anything but cardboard boxes, but see no reason someone as resourceful as yourself, couldn’t come up with a way to make them work.

Those are really nice looking targets. I made mine from feed bags, painted with primer spray paint to help them blend in a bit. I stuffed them with a variety of old tarps and billboard material, which is like a light weight tarp. They work really well. The arrows are pretty easy to get out, although I wouldn’t say two finger all the time. I tried the grocery bags but the too easily punched through the feed bags and quickly made a mess. dwcphoto
