I’ve been searching for a good, quiet boot for stalking/ground hunting. Emphasis on quiet. Too many boots I find have overkill soles that are too heavy. On the other hand, boots like Bean’s have a quiet sole, but kind of a sloppy fit, imo. But I recently came across a pair of Danner Jackals that look like they could be the ticket. They are apparently designed to be a stalking boot, with a quiet sole, GTX lining, athletic fit and good ankle support.
I have been using a pair of Danner Pronghorns for a while now, primarily for upland hunting, and have been really happy with them for support, and lightness, but they’re still a bit more boot than I want for stealthy quiet at close quarters.
Anyone have any experience with the Jackals? They look sweet.

Yep, I have a pair and they are so comfortable that I wear them only for hunting — want to save them for the good stuff. Light, quiet, and they have a good “ride”. Skip the top lace hooks and don’t lace ’em tight. They are like high-top sneakers. Best quiet hunting boots I have ever owned. My old Red Wings are relegated to other duty now.

I like the lacross boots that are simmilar to the Beans. They are great for feeling the ground but don’t offer much for traction. I had to trade them in when I moved to an area with more topography than a cotton field.

I had some and they were seriously the worst boots I’ve ever owned. Poor fit, goretex leaked after TWO hikes, sent them back and another pair did the same. NOT a fan, and hope you all have better luck with Danner products.I’m being as polite as possible.

No worries. That’s the kind of feedback I’m looking for. Thanks.
I ended up buying a pair, but so far I’ve only worn them around the house. My first impression was that the fit is kind of narrow, even though I was wasn’t wearing a very thick sock and I don’t have wide feet at all. Hopefully they’ll loosen up a bit. We’ll see how they perform come Spring.
