I guess I never realized how blessed I am to live where I do and it came to mind the other day when I saw a post about a guy posting he hoped he could get both his tags filled.

        Both? TWO?

How many deer can most of you legally take (with a bow) where you are?

        and

While Im past the point in my life where “all the tags must be filled” (lifetime license helped with that mentality…no money spent annually on tags) I do attempt to take several.

Just curious to see what the average number of legal deer most have TO take annually in their area and how many they “plan” to take.

Why I want to find out? Who knows…….just interested.

        God Bless

        sigh…4 AM…….off to work. 😥

In new york region 3North we get two buck tags and one or two doe tags. Doe tags are transferable. I never killed more than one except last year where I got two. I sometimes give away one of my doe tag to procrastinating friends who bought their license the day before opening, and were not issued any.

            Hi Steve,
I’m in Pennsylvania. With the purchase of the regular license we can take an antlered deer during rifle season. With an additional archery license, we can hunt earlier and later, but no additional deer. We can purchase up to three antlerless deer tags in most wildlife management areas. Some allow more if they’re really trying to knock down the numbers. Then there’s DMAP tags. They’re for specific properties that need a cull. Might be state forest areas, might be private land. I’m not sure, but I think you can get as many of those as you like, but only one at a time. Fill one, get another.
Short answer for most parts, one and with the extra antlerless tags, four. I might need correcting by guys in other parts of the state though.

In Manitoba we can take four for sure I think !! Archery, muzzle, general and maybe a special doe liscense in the Red River area. Archery equipment can be used in all of the seasons as long as you have purchased a liscence. I usually purchase the archery and general and hunt both seasons with my bow providing it doesn’t get to cold !!

In MI,you get two tags. Doe tags are issued differently every year depending on the deer numbers. Plus there are different specialized areas you can draw for. Since I only have one child left in the house, I stick to two deer these days

When I lived in AL things seen to change every few years. When I was young it was a deer a day and it could be either a buck or a doe. Later on it changed to two deer a day. You cound take one buck and one doe or two does and no buck. That was everyday of the archery hunting season (Oct. 15th – Jan. 31st). Back then I had the mentality of wackum and stackum.

When I moved to MO things really changed. You were allowed two bucks a year during the bow season ( one in the early season and one in the late, unless you didn’t take one in the first and then you could take two in the late) and one during the gun season. Anterless tags were sold as many as you thought you needed. Thats when I found out I had become a rack hunter and didn’t need to wack and stack. Some seasons I only took a doe or two due to not getting the shot I wanted at the wall hanger.

Now that I’m in OH we are only allowed 1 buck per year and up to three antlerless (in my zone). Other zones are either higher or lower. If I get a shot at a doe I’ll take it to put meat in the freezer. If I get a chance at a good buck I’ll take it as well. If not, it doesn’t seem to matter. Guess I’m in that final stage of hunting.

Considering elk as big deer, I average four every five years. This year I have two tags — one down, one to go. I quit hunting deer for many years to repay bad karma after an unfortunate accident. Started back about 5 years ago and only one Coues to show for it. Today is the last day of archery deer here in CO, but most of the big bucks are down in town (with the bears) where apples litter the ground in many neighborhoods. In general I try not to kill more meat than my wife and I and a few close friends can eat in a year. One elk goes a long ways.

Heck, if I get one a year, I’m a supremely happy man. Supplemented with birds and fish and sundry forage, of course.

for public land u can buy extra doe tags for i think 10 dollars apiece

Interesting how the same animal in various areas of our great Country have such large differences in herd numbers (assuming that is the MAIN reason for tag number variations).

Here in IN, we get two archery tags and my county gets 8 bonus county (antlerless) per hunter on top of those two.

One buck annually, regardless of weapon.

Limits on antlerless deer are per county and most around me are like mine and another additonal 8 antlerless tags are available for each hunter. Some counties have less in other parts of the state but the maximum number of antlerless you COULD take is more limited by having a place to hunt in another county than ability to purchase the tags.

FEW hunters that I know want more than 2-3 deer but a few of us do. Ive yet to have venison year round but I keep telling myself to stop letting so many walk…..aka procrastinating. 🙄

It takes LOTS of deer to equal one of David’s elk freezer space wise! 😀

Best thing IMHO of it all for me is Im not “done hunting” till season is over.

If I can fill 10 tags in one year sometime with my bow………you all will hear about it. 😯 😆

                          God Bless

IN my neck of western NY I get 1) regular season antlered (can be used as an antlerless tag in late muzzleloader season) and muzzleloader and archery share the same two tags
2)an either sex and 3) an antlerless. There is also two chances for doe tags (transferable as Alex said) for a $10 lottery and an opportunity to buy the leftover tags on oct 1st (usually none left). We also get a black bear tag. So without any nusance permits (or transfers) I can get up to 5 deer tags. This year I have three tags. I usually fill all my tags as I have friends who can use the meat, I have also donated venison a few times.
That being said this is my first year going trad, so we’ll see in three weeks!

I would have to stop and cipher it out, but in my county alone I can kill 10 with a bow-1 buck and 9 does or 10 does!
I usually I shoot a doe early on for meat and then save my archery either sex tag for a “special” buck and then use a bonus tag for another doe that I donate to a local mission. I must admit that I haven’t shot a “special” buck for quite some time, but putting one in the freezer and another the mission is doable unless work cuts into my hunting time.
For residents our tags are pretty reasonable. Archery either sex is around $25, first bonus is $25 and then it is around $15 for additional bonus tags. Indiana is a one buck state (all weapons) with special draw hunts being an exception. IF I had been smart, I would have bought my lifetime license years ago when it included all of your deer, turkey and small game tags.
Less than a week ’til deer and turkey!

When I left AL resident hnting lic. were $25, that covered everything unless you wanted to hunt a WMA. Then you had to buy a lic for those that was $18 and it was good state wide.

There was no deer tags. As far as I know it’s still the same.

In my part of North Carolina, Charlotte, which is considered the Central region, we are allowed up to six deer. Two of those could be antlered. Four antlered deer are allowed in the eastern part of the state. You can purchase an unlimited amount of bonus antlerless harvest report cards. Those cards are good for two antlerless deer. We have specific archery, muzzleloader and gun seasons. Archery equipment can be used during any season. Our seasons run from September 10 to January 2 for this year. The cost for a resident is $40 for a sportsman license that covers statewide hunting and inland fishing and hunting on public game lands. The cost for the bonus antlerless cards is $10 each. You sure can take alot of deer in North Carolina. This is only my second season hunting and I took none last year. We’ll see how it goes this year.

In Pennsylvania, if you live in certain areas, you can indeed get many doe permits. If you live in typical rural areas, like I do, than you generally get one doe tag, and the rest are usually sold out before bonus become available. Not all WMA’s are created equal….nor should they be. One buck per year….period.

Also, Pennsylvania has over a million total deer hunters, counting all weapons, so we have much more pressure than nearly all other states.

The first year I hunted in Wisconsin, you could only get a single deer per weapon. Your back tag was your carcas tag, and when you filled it you were done. Things sure have changed.

Now in Wisconsin, you get one buck per weapon (one archery, one gun) in most of the state. In the CWD Zone, you can take unlimited additional bucks via earn-a-buck. In both the CWD Zone and herd reduction zones, antlerless tags are unlimited (free in the CWD Zone, $2 each in herd reduction zones). Elsewhere in the state, antlerless tags are sold on a cap which varies between zones from highly limited to virtually unlimited. So in a lot of Wisconsin, bowhunters can kill unlimited antlerless deer.

In Illinois, there is a statewide two buck limit. Antlerless archery tags are unlimited. You can kill as many antlerless deer with archery equipment here as you’d like.

Ohio is divided up into 3 zones, A,B,& C. I live in Zone B. I can harvest 1-Buck (3″ Antlers or better) and 3-Does. Either/or tag is $24. Doe tag is $15. All my wife and I need is one Deer. She’s an excellent cook(especially wild game) and uses it all up thru the winter into the spring time. TR

We can get up to 4 in my zone in Ohio with a bow, but only one buck for the season. I usually only get one or two antlerless tags along with am either or tag. I usually donate one to the Urban Missions kitchen and share some with a friend. My wife prepares it well but doesn’t eat much venison.
I try to fill my doe tags while always having the option of taking a buck. My antlerless tags are good during the first week of gun season which I can hunt with a bow…if I dare:roll: Wayne

Here in Mississippi, you can shoot one buck per day not to exceed 3/year and 1 doe per day not to exceed 5/year. We have no tag system as of yet.

2 archery, 2 muzzleloader, 2 gun or all 6 with archery. If you win 1 of the many draw hunts, the deer taken at that time don’t count against your regular season total. Archery 1 Oct to 15 Jan. Muzzleloader 10 days. Gun 16 days except some areas 9 days only and some areas closed to muzzleloader and guns. Unfortunelately X-bows have made their way into Oklahoma.

My game zone in SC, northeastern part, has no limit on antlered bucks, the only limit on does is 2 per day. I have never shot more than 2 deer in a season (lack of skill not choice). Some shoot upwards of 20 deer each year, which makes me wonder what those people do with all that meat.

In my county we can shoot does until the kill quota is met for that area, which is usally way to liberal. It is on a first come basis until all the tags are gone.

I used to average about 3 to 4 deer a year, but now that the kids are moved out and they have kids of there own, I usally only shoot 1 deer a year now. I just don’t have any room in the freezer anymore with my kids and grand kids all hunting:lol:

I live in Kentucky so I purchase a sportsman license that includes my turkey (spring and fall) and either 2 does or a buck and doe. I will also have a antlerless tag that allows 2 does. depending on the zone I hunt is what could limit the number of deer.

I usually harvest 3-4. First deer gets donated to the food bank.
