By lucky happenstance I’m apparently one of the early readers of Steve Graf’s new book, “The American Longbow: How to Make One, and Its Place in a Good Life.”
It’s available from a number of outlets, so I’m not going to point to any one in particular. I have merely scanned through it, and I am already sure it will become a classic of archery writing.
Webmom, you folks need a review of this book in the mag ASAP. No, I’m not angling for that assignment. 😉

That’s awesome! I know how much work goes into writing a book, even if the subject is something you are passionate about. Congratulations, Steve!
I’m sure Dave Tetzlaff would welcome the opportunity to review this book. Keep in mind it might be six to twelve months before you will see it in the magazine. I’ll get the ball rolling on that for sure! Thanks for telling us about it.

this is excellent news! I know this is a subject that is close to your heart. Congrats, david

Ordered. I wonder if the author is signing copies…?..
-
Thanks for the kind words!
Regarding a book review… Mr. Don Thomas asked me to send a copy to Dave T. already. So we shall see.
And regarding a signed copy… I’d be happy to sign it if ever we should meet.

As mentioned, Amazon has it, as does Barnes and Noble and others online.
If you still have local book shops in your area, they can order it from their distributor as well. Speaking of, I listened to a story on NPR yesterday about how ebook sales are declining and local book shops have started coming back. Nice!

I can’t wait to read this! Way to go Steve.

Thanks again for all the kind words! Speaking of…
I know that reviews go a long way in helping people decide if they want to buy a product. I know I weight them heavily. I’d like to respectfully ask those that read the book to leave a review (good or bad) with the online retailer from whom they bought the book.
Thanks.

Sure thing! We are a small community and the least we can do for a brother of the bow.
I should be getting my copy today or tomorrow.

I’ll be happy to do that. I’m expecting my copy to be in the mail when I return from vacation. Wish I’d had it a few days ago, but I’ll fit it in soon. All the best, David

Just finished reading it. I highly recommend this book to anyone considering building an ASL and to one who also wonders how this addiction to traditional archery and bow hunting fits into the context of a well lived life. 5 stars!

I’ve just about finished Stephen’s book. It is not JUST about making bows (Hill style, ASL’s) tho’ that is the major content, and has LOTS of great insight to that process. If you’re like me and probably not going to make your own longbow, or you don’t even care about longbows (you shoot recurves, etc.) – get this book anyway! You’ll really enjoy the “asides”, the bow hunting talk, the literature of bow shooting mindset, the technique (especially if you’re holding that string too long). You’ve probably already seen (in TBM) the review, and the reviewer is a better writer than me, but I’m happy to give this book, this man’s effort, technical abilities, and outlook on bow hunting life – top of the lists! Thanks, Stephen for this book!
