Anybody got any reviews/experience? Sure like the brow tine model, but the price tag is more than I usually pay for a knife. If its a great lifetime blade, I’d sure be inclined to order one.

Noticed them in the print mag.

I don’t have one, but lots of folks give Helle knives excellent comments and they’re actually less money than the model you’re looking at. The blades, without handles, are amazingly cheap. I might make one just for the heck of it. I have a few knives made by Bud Nealy, a local guy, former jazz drummer, who has become world renown for his tactical knives. http://www.budnealyknifemaker.com He makes a variety of knives, as well as custom makes for his customers’ specific needs. I have a camp knife and a few bird/hunter models, as well as a few kitchen knives. All great knives.

Tailfeather — I agree with dcphoto that Helle knives and blades are the best value for the money, so far as I know and of course I haven’t tried all the others. I have tried CRKT, the little two-blade set TBM was offering a few years ago as a subscription bonus (3 years, as I recall). While the small size and lack of handles made these little guys limited in use. I found them to be excellent backup blades. Still have one, lost the other. But nothing’s a Helle but a Helle.

Sound advice, fellas. Much appreciated. I looked into just the blank Helle blades…..I can get the one I want for a little over $20 bucks. That’s incredible.

The antlers from my first buck would make a really nice and meaningful knife handle. Think that’s the way I’ll go.

              Thanks again.

                Tailfeather –

I’ve always heard good things about Helle knives as well, but since you asked about CRKT, I have two of their Russ Kommer designs (Brow Tine and Chugach) and several other models as well. I have yet to be disappointed by any of them. I think CRKT has really upped their game in the last few years, and is making some of the best knives you can find for the money.

You can get a Brow Tine for around $70 these days, and I think it’s a very good buy at that price. Comes with a nice sheath, too.

But obviously, making your own from a Helle blank, and your first buck, is hard to beat. Love to see some pics of it when you’re done.

Thanks, Smith. $70 is a great price….is that from a local shop? I thought the ones I was seeing were upwards of $130.

*Edit: Just found some on Amazon for that price (and your review:D). Thanks.

I picked up the Brow Tine last year and have been very pleased. The size and design are just what I look for in a knive, never been a fan of big knives. It sharpens easily and holds an edge. In addition to being a graet knive I found it at a Cabela’s bargain basement in perfect condition w/o a case for $15. I called CKT and they sent a new sheath for ten bucks. I love a great deal!

The best thing about CRKT is that it is owned by Rod and Peggy Bremer. Rod is a traditional bowhunter who supports the shooting sports. For years he has donated the knives for the PBS youth hunt, and he sponsors the harvest section in TBM, giving a knife away each issue. CRKT has earned the reputation of a great product at a fair price.
Additionally, when he is not too busy peddling knives around the world he’s one hell of a good hunting partner!

I own Helle and I have CRKT. The CRKT that I own and use are pocket knives but have been great and easy to keep sharp.
