I’m finding that I’m not always reaching full draw which is costing me a very visible speed loss just from the one inch loss in draw. I’m anchoring (most of the time :?) but just not consistantly reaching full draw. I was considering a clicker since I wont be hunting with it till next fall and I want to use the time to build a good muscle memory. Anyone have any experience with these? Thanks

I’ve been using one for several years. Your decision to make that change after season is a wise one. When you first start using a clicker, you may notice that your shooting at first gets worse instead of better. That’s normal, but stick with it and you may be pleasantly surprised.

            J. Wesbrock had a very good article in TBM a few issues back. It explained how to install the clicker and how to use it. I read again a couple of nights back. Well Done:!::!:
I have a few questions. Can the clicker be used for an off-season and then removed for hunting, or is it most often a forever thing?
Does it have any affect on how you aim the bow?

First; thanks for the kind words.

Yes, the clicker can be removed for hunting, provided you’ve used it enough to create a window where you can shoot without it. I don’t have one on my longbow, nor on my 1960 Black Widow, but I know that if I shoot those bows exclusively for too long the TP will start to creep back.

Shooting with a clicker doesn’t change how I aim. But it does give me the control to be able to aim.

I shot with a clicker for a few years and it did improve my shooting. However, I started to use it as a crutch and the clicker became my anchor point. Sadly my accuracy that I had developed started to decline as my form diminished and my only goal was to make it click. Remember that the clicker is a training aid to help you develop good form, and you should use the clicker to create a consistent anchor point that you can use after you take the clicker off.

Blake — is that a new Eclipse logo? In any event, it’s cool. 8)

I’ve never had “target panic” on targets and can’t even comprehend how it happens, even to very experienced shooters. However, after 50+ years of trad bowhunting I still occasionally get target panic, or buck fever, or whatever, on live game. And the more impressive the animal I’m aiming at, and/or the more rushed I feel for the shot, the more likely I will “panic” and not make full draw. Happily, I make my own arrows and have found that if I position the feathers just so they audibly contact my beard/mustache, it provides a “click” I can hear but the game cannot. Many ways to skin a cat, including letting it go. dp

I suffered for years with the dreaded TP … and sometimes it returns. I’ve tried every method known to overcome this mental affliction, even clickers that worked well for awhile. The only sure thing for me, however, turned on establishing correct form; making proper form second nature so that ultimately no thinking occurs when shooting, only aiming. The majority of my practice sessions focus on form alone. Howard Hill shot 100 arrows every day just for form. Check out the Masters of the Barebow series. I found those episodes featuring Rod Jenkins most helpful. I also stopped reading articles on TP … I don’t even like mentioning the term.

Good luck with … well, you know. 😉

I’m a clicker fan. I’m new to bowhunting so I found it to be a great tool to reach full draw. I thought I was reaching full draw but once I started using the clicker I was shocked to learn that most of the time I was short. Great tool.
