Hello, my name is Jakob and i recently became intrested in traditional bowhunting after being introduced to it by a neighbor who has done it all his life. I would like to go started but do not know where to start in a way haha. I would just like to hear some of your opinions on choosing the right type of bow. The model and specifics. I am 15 years old and would prolly can only pull 40-45 punds. Any advice on where to get my first bow and such?
:Dthanks alot!!

Hi Jakob, and welcome to a whole new world, if your neighbour belongs to a club tag along have a look see what others are shooting. Most traditional archers are pretty friendly and will tell you about their set ups and often let you have a go.
I guess then its a case of fixin a budget and visiting some stores, when you finally take the plunge buy from an archery shop or someone that knows about traditional bows they will be much more knowledgeable and helpful.
Check out 3 Rivers Archery they often have deals and the classifieds one here.
Guess that’s enough from me Ill let someone else have a say, Mark.

Ah, the quest for that elusive first bow. I agree that you should hang out with archers, One of them might have a bow hanging in the closet. And probley for cheap. Good luck on your hunt.

There are a few traditional bowhunting websites that have classifieds that are GENERALLY safe and you are likely to deal with good people. But you never know. Right? TBM has a classified section too; this would be the best place to start looking.
Poke around on the classifieds, and feel free to send me the advertisements for bows you are interested in. I’d be happy to filter the “junk” for you and advise you as best I can.
If you have further questions, feel free to send me a pm. Good luck on your search.

I think the fact that you have a neighbor that has introduced you to traditional archery should help you off to a good start. The best advise I have is don’t be in a hurry to BUY right away. Got to a few traditional shoots, or check with the traditional archers in your area. Try out a few bows before you decide. Your bow is an extension of yourself, you must be completely comfortable with it. If you were a compound shooter previously, my immediate reaction would be to check out a Recurve first, since they would be a similar “fit” as a compound. would also recommend starting out with a 40-45 # bow at your draw length, or at least 10# ligther than your compound. Hope that helps, please feel free to PM me also anytime.
