I just switched to shooting a trad bow (tomahawk woodland hunter) and I was wondering about which type, carbon, wood, aluminum; and what spine I should look at. I draw 30″ and am pulling approx. 55#. I have been shooting axis FMJ 400’s with 100 grain head, but feel this is probably too light an arrow/point combo. Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated.

Sorry, I don’t know anything about your axis.

Lots of good info. at the above site.
          Hope it helps.
A starting point might be Legacy 2018 aluminum and 125 gr. point. Get about three and fletch two with feathers and leave one bare shaft. Read about bareshaft test at the above site.
Are you sure you’re pulling that much length with a trad bow? Most pull less when switching from compound.

woodduck, thanks for the link. I’ll check it out.Re: draw weight- It’s very close to 55# at my draw length +/- 1#. I was shooting 65# with my compound and had tried a 55# recurve, but that was too much. I tried the tomahawk longbow and was really amazed at the felt difference. 55# was still a little heavy with the longbow but 50# @ 28″ felt great. Thanks again.

              Flyflinger,

I shoot right around the same weight as you. I needed full length 340s for 125g heads and 30 1/4 for 250g heads. You are likely a little underspined with those 400s depending on your draw length. That link is a GOOD one to get your trad bow tuned in.
